Specialist Physician Dermatology

Role Overview

Specialist Physician Dermatology at SEHA Hospitals. The post holder delivers high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care and serves as an example of clinical excellence within the Division while contributing to supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Role Purpose

To diagnose and treat dermatology patients according to established standards of best practice, work under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, and support the clinical and administrative operations of the Division while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for dermatology under the supervision of the Consultant Physician
• Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
• Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required
• Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned

Supervision & Collaboration

• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
• Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care

Compliance & Documentation

• Comply with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices
• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources
• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures

On-Call Coverage

• Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required

Administrative & Managerial

• Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures
• Support and participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes
• Assist with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times
• Attend Divisional meetings as invited
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff

Quality & Safety

• Help support quality improvement initiatives within the Division
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice
• Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents

Education & Professional Development

• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication
• Keep abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry

Qualifications & Experience

Tier 1

• No additional experience required post board certification

Tier 2

• Not less than 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in internationally accredited institute
• UAE nationals: No additional experience required post board certification
• UAE Nationals and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs: No experience required post board certification

Tier 3

• Not less than 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in internationally accredited institute
