Role Overview

Specialist - Obstetrics & Gynaecology at NMC Healthcare. The role is based in the United Arab Emirates and requires registration and eligibility with relevant UAE healthcare authorities.

Role Purpose

Deliver professional, ethical, and high-quality clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology. Manage clinical risks, ensure compliance with governance standards, maintain accurate medical records, and demonstrate continuous professional development while maintaining integrity in clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery

• Provide comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.
• Perform professional duties as an obstetrician/gynaecologist across all settings.
• Provide surgical care in the operating room and out-patient department for gynaecologic and obstetric conditions, both emergency and planned procedures.
• Cover the Delivery Room, including admitting patients, reviewing history, planning courses of action, performing spontaneous and operative deliveries, and interacting with midwives.
• Provide out-patient care in clinics as assigned by the head of department.
• Perform and interpret ultrasound examinations in hospital and out-patient settings.
• Interpret fetal heart rate monitoring and take appropriate action.

Emergency & Consultation Services

• Cover the Emergency Service by promptly responding to calls for consultation.
• Carry out formal and informal consultations with physicians from other departments.
• Interact with patients' families to keep them informed of patient condition, changes in condition, and treatment plans.

Clinical Governance & Quality

• Monitor and manage clinical risks associated with direct patient care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
• Monitor clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
• Monitor, within established guidelines, the quality of care provided.
• Participate in review and study of difficult and special cases.
• Strictly observe the organization's medical regulations and policies, especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment, and patient care.

Professional Development & Records

• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Ensure excellence in medical practice by focusing on continuous professional development of self and others.
• Maintain integrity in professional services by executing clinical services in an ethical and responsible manner.

Scheduling & Administration

• Work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays according to a schedule compiled by the head of department.
• Attend committee meetings as assigned by the head of department.
• Carry out other duties as requested by the head of department.

DOH Cervical Cancer Screening Program Compliance

• Provide clinical services and patient care in accordance with Department of Health policies and standards and the laws and regulations of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
• Submit data to DOH via e-Claims in accordance with the DOH Reporting of Health Statistics Policy and DOH Data Standards and Procedures.
• Provide appropriate patient education and information regarding screening tests.
• Ensure appropriate patient consent is obtained and documented on the patient's medical record.
• Develop effective recording systems, maintain patient records, and maintain confidentiality, privacy, and security of patient information.
• Educate patients on services provided and satisfy the requirements of patient informed consent and patient rights and responsibilities charter.

Occupational Safety & Health

• Comply with reasonable Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all OSH trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
• Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections to ensure standards are maintained.

Infection Prevention & Control

• Read and implement the NMC Prevention and Control of Infection Policy and Strategy to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness.
• Maintain strictest hand hygiene practices, including the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
• Maintain bare below the elbows protocols.
• Ensure appropriate environmental care to reduce the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 3 to 5 years' post-qualification experience at Specialist level, independent of country of origin.
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognized by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a specialty recognized by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (for example, BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP).
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration, including Membership from Royal College, Arab Board Certification, MS, DM, MPhil, or an equivalent recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
