Role Overview

Specialist - Neurology at NMC Healthcare. The role encompasses both outpatient and inpatient neurological practice, with responsibility for neurodiagnostic laboratory operations and on-call emergency coverage.

Role Purpose

To deliver comprehensive, professional, and ethical neurological clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner, while maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance, quality management, and patient safety in accordance with UAE healthcare authority regulations and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery

• Perform duties of a neurologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges approved by the Credential Committee in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Provide comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.
• Monitor and manage clinical risks associated with direct patient care.
• Maintain accurate medical records.

Neurodiagnostic Laboratory Operations

• Oversee the operation of the neurodiagnostic laboratory, including electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG).
• Provide on-going training of technicians as needed.

Emergency and On-Call Coverage

• Provide on-call emergency coverage for neurologic emergencies.

Quality Improvement and Professional Development

• Support continuous quality improvement and develop and promote appropriate standards of care.
• Ensure excellence in medical practice by focusing on continuous professional development of self and others.
• Participate in monthly educational conferences.

Governance and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
• Develop thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures and demonstrate respect for them.
• Maintain integrity in professional services by executing clinical services in an ethical and responsible manner.

Interpersonal and Leadership

• Exercise effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates, and management.
• Evidence leadership skills in developing in others the willingness and desire to work toward common objectives.
• Demonstrate the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.

Confidentiality and Privacy

• Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and administrative matters of a confidential nature.
• Follow security and privacy policies and procedures for the use of networks, including intranet and Internet.
• Follow confidentiality and security measures to protect electronic health information.
• Maintain data integrity and validity within an information system.
• Report any possible breaches of confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies.

Occupational Safety and Health Management

• Comply with reasonable occupational safety and health (OSH) instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all OSH trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
• Participate in occupational safety and health management system (OSHMS) audits and inspections to ensure standards are maintained.
• Ensure safe manual handling and safe practices techniques during diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures.
• Handle all consumables and instruments with utmost care and follow safety, infection control, and prevention protocols.
• Ensure wearing and use of appropriate protective equipment as per practice.
• Assist customers in identifying workplace hazards that affect health.
• Provide expert advice on products, premises, and processes that may affect health and safety at work.
• Assist in identifying areas for health improvement to improve staff health, staff performance, and patient care.
• Ensure accurate, appropriate, and timely implementation of relevant legislation, national standards, and directives, for example FANR and DOH OSHMS.

Health Information Management

• Adhere to information systems policies and procedures as required by the healthcare organization.
• Ensure that documentation in the health record reflects accuracy, integrity, and authenticity.
• Apply departmental and organizational data and information system security policies.

Prevention and Control of Infection

• Read and implement the NMC Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain the strictest hand hygiene practices, including the five moments of hand hygiene.
• Maintain bare below the elbows standards and environmental care at all times.

Business Continuity

• Achieve an adequate level of general awareness regarding business continuity and be aware of the contents of the service area's disaster recovery plan and any specific role or responsibilities allocated.
• Participate actively in the business continuity programme when required.
• Ensure information governance standards continue to be applied to data and information during an incident.

General Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified and licensed Medical Practitioner.
• At least 3–5 years' post-qualification experience at consultant level, independent of country.
• At least 1 year consultant-level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of higher education programme (fellowship or diploma) recognized by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognized by relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification, for example BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, or NRP.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to use basic word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop presentation applications as applicable to work.
