Specialist - Nephrology

Role Overview

Specialist - Nephrology at NMC Healthcare. The role provides specialized services to patients for the diagnosis and management of diseases of the kidney.

Role Purpose

To deliver expert nephrology care to patients, including diagnosis and management of kidney disease, while providing clinical leadership, emergency coverage, and education to support departmental excellence and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Perform professional duties as a Specialist Nephrologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges approved by the Credentials Committee.
• Provide after-hours on-call emergency coverage for nephrology emergencies and hemodialysis unit.
• Follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations, and Joint Commission International norms while treating and managing patients.

Education & Supervision

• Provide supervision and education to dialysis staff including nurses and technicians.
• Participate in and contribute to educational activities in the service.

Quality Assurance & Improvement

• Participate in and contribute to all quality assurance activities of the service, including monthly mortality and morbidity conferences, peer review, audit, and chart review.
• Support Continuous Quality Improvement.
• Develop and promote appropriate standards of care.

Professional Conduct & Communication

• Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and confidential administrative matters.
• Demonstrate the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
• Exercise effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates, and management.
• Develop thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures and demonstrate respect for them.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Head of the Department.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency.
• Certification by the American Board of Neurology or Member of the Royal College of Neurology (or equivalent).
• At least five years of practice as a nephrologist with two or more years as a licensed specialist.
• Current licensure in country of origin and DHA license to practice as a Specialist in Nephrology in Dubai, UAE.

Skills & Competencies

• Highly skilled in the particular field of nephrology practice with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong personality that inspires confidence and trust in patients.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients, and families.
• Ability to adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
