Role Overview

Specialist, HSE at Ma'aden. The role is based at mine sites.

Role Purpose

Protect worker safety and environmental compliance across mine operations through inspections, investigations, reporting, and the establishment of a safety-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections & Compliance Monitoring

• Carry out inspections, audits and assessments of hazards and unsafe conditions at mine sites.
• Observe compliance by employees to the mine's safety rules and regulations.
• Submit written reports on violations accordingly.
• Monitor mine sites with respect to any matters relating to safety, existing or new, as well as any new tasks relative to these issues.
• Recommend necessary corrective actions to responsible personnel when any incidents or violations occur.

Incident Investigation & Analysis

• Investigate all injury and non-injury accidents.
• Determine the causal factors.
• Submit established recommendations to concerned department heads.
• Record and study accident statistics.
• Propose essential actions to enhance safety performance and minimize occurrences of accidents.

Contractor Oversight

• Ensure that contractors' employees are cognizant with company safety regulations and procedures.
• Ensure that contractors' employees follow environmental regulations.
• Follow up to assure full compliance.

Safety Culture & Communications

• Establish a safety culture strategy for the mine site.
• Initiate distributions of safety communications materials and letters as part of general safety promotions.
• Enhance safety consciousness of all employees.

Corrective Action & Problem Assessment

• Together with general foremen and superintendents, assess potential safety problems.
• Implement corrective actions.

Reporting & Coordination

• Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports.
• Submit reports to key personnel concerned.
• Coordinate with Internal Audit (Finance) all incidents, particularly equipment and property damage that are subject for insurance claims.

Committee & Emergency Operations

• Represent safety section in committees' safety meetings.
• Take part in emergency teams operations as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Mining, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Three to five years safety engineering experience, preferably in the mining or oil and gas industries.

Skills & Competencies

• English language proficiency (oral and written).
• Negotiation skills.
• Safety Project Management.
