Role Overview

Specialist - General Pediatrics at NMC Healthcare. The role involves delivering professional, ethical, and high-quality clinical care to pediatric patients, managing clinical risks, ensuring compliance with governance standards, and maintaining accurate medical records while emphasizing continuous professional development.

Role Purpose

To provide comprehensive professional and ethical clinical services to pediatric patients in an effective and efficient manner, performing the full scope of pediatric practice including outpatient evaluations, inpatient care, emergency coverage, and consultative services to other medical departments.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Provide comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.
• Perform professional duties of a pediatrician.
• Perform duties in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic evaluating patients on a daily basis.
• Perform general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of pediatrics.
• Order laboratory examinations and x-rays, determine diagnosis, and prescribe nursing and dietary care necessary.
• Order or apply preventive measures as required.
• Provide in-patient care to the newborn and attend difficult deliveries or cesarean section deliveries.
• Provide on-call emergency coverage for pediatric emergencies.

Consultative Services

• Serve as pediatric consultant to Surgery and OB/Gy for in-patients and out-patients as assigned and/or required.
• Serve as a specialist in pediatrics providing consultative services to other Medical Services.
• Provide technical assistance with pediatric patients.

Clinical Governance & Risk Management

• Monitor and manage clinical risks associated with direct patient care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Maintain integrity in professional services by executing clinical services in an ethical and responsible manner.

Professional Development & Learning

• Ensure excellence in medical practice is maintained by focusing on continuous professional development of self and others.
• Review journals, texts or periodicals in order to keep current on latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
• Participate in scheduled in-service training programs and in regular Physicians' Conference.

Occupational Safety & Health

• Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues.
• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.
• Participate in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.

Infection Prevention & Control

• Implement the NMC Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
• Maintain strictest hand hygiene, applying the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
• Maintain bare below the elbows practice and environmental care at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 3 to 5 years' post-qualification experience at Specialist level, independent of country.
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP).
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration, e.g. Membership from Royal College, Arab Board Certification, MS, DM, MPhil or an equivalent recognised by relevant healthcare authority in UAE.

Additional Information

• Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) is everyone's responsibility and all staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy.
• Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested.
