Role Overview
Specialist – Emergency Medicine at Sidra Medicine. This is a Board-Certified physician position within the Division of Emergency Medicine, providing family-centered medical care services to pediatric patients under the supervision of Attending Physicians.

Role Purpose
To deliver the highest quality clinical care to pediatric patients in the Emergency Medicine Division by providing family-centered, evidence-based medical services within a multidisciplinary framework, ensuring patient and family-focused, service-oriented care that meets organizational standards and accreditation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Assessment
- Coordinate and facilitate direct delivery of patient and family care within a multidisciplinary framework, primarily in an inpatient care setting, to ensure a patient and family focused, service-oriented environment in accordance with Evidence Based and Best Practice standards.
- Assess and identify health needs of the patient population and plan, implement, and evaluate interventions appropriate to meet those needs in accordance with organizational standards and accreditation requirements.
- Elicit, perform and record the history of physical examinations on assigned patients.
- Develop a differential diagnosis for the presenting problem and implement a plan for management under the supervision of the Attending Physician.
- Develop and perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per standardized protocols.
- Provide daytime and nighttime patient care coverage as directed by the clinical schedule of the Division.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Care Coordination
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare team to devise treatment plans based on patient and family needs to ensure the delivery of high quality and evidence-based services that are sufficient, efficient and responsive.
- Collaborate with Case Management and Discharge Planning teams to plan and facilitate the continuity of comprehensive care of specialty patient populations from hospital, home and outpatient settings.
- Facilitate effective inter- and intradepartmental communication between patient, family, community and interdisciplinary team members for collaboration, liaison, networking and teamwork to ensure the maintenance of strong and professional relationships.
Patient & Family Education
- Provide counseling and anticipatory guidance to patients and families regarding physical, psychosocial and developmental needs.
- Assist in the assessment of learning needs of patients and families.
- Work in tandem with the Community and Patient Education Department to develop and implement patient education materials and programs centered on learning preferences, religious and cultural values, and appropriate reading and language skills of target audience.
Compliance & Quality Improvement
- Contribute to ensuring that clinical practices within the Division of Emergency Medicine are in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Ministry of Public Health, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Participate in Quality and Performance Improvement activities through regular chart review, targeted CQI activities, and systematic and detailed review and evaluation of patient outcome data.
- Identify and facilitate resolution of challenges and problems to improve Division cohesiveness and patient satisfaction.
Professional Development & Research
- Maintain knowledge of current research and incorporate findings into clinical practice.
- Actively participate in clinical research projects as directed.
- Actively participate in clinical management consensus development.
- Participate in Nursing, Allied Health, and Post Graduate Medical Training as required.

Documentation & Administration
- Provide effective and timely record keeping and documentation.
- Conduct other duties as directed by the Attending Physician and the Division Chief.
Professional Standing
- Maintain Medical License.
- Remain active in professional organizations.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- MD, MBBS degree or equivalent.
- Board Certification in Pediatrics and/or Emergency Medicine.
- Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of one year of Post-Board Certification/Fellowship experience.
Additional Information
- Clinical training in Emergency Medicine required.
- Work under supervision of Attending Physicians.
