Role Overview

Specialist - Dermatology at NMC Healthcare. The role involves delivering professional, ethical, and high-quality clinical care in dermatology, managing clinical risks, ensuring compliance with governance standards, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Role Purpose

Provide comprehensive professional and ethical clinical services to dermatology patients in an effective and efficient manner, with responsibility spanning outpatient consultations, inpatient admissions, emergency coverage, and procedural interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care and Patient Management

• Provide comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.
• Perform duties in the Dermatology outpatient Clinic, evaluating patients with skin diseases on a daily basis.
• Deliver consultation services to patients with skin diseases in the Clinic.
• Provide consultation service to inpatients in dermatology.
• Admit to the hospital patients with skin diseases requiring inpatient services and assume their care.
• Provide on-call emergency coverage for dermatologic emergencies.

Clinical Procedures

• Perform dermatologic procedures including PUVA therapy, skin biopsy, cryosurgery, electrocautery, chemical peeling, curettage, and excision.

Clinical Governance and Risk Management

• Monitor and manage clinical risks associated with direct patient care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Maintain integrity in professional services by executing clinical services in an ethical and responsible manner.

Professional Development and Leadership

• Ensure excellence in medical practice is maintained by focusing on continuous professional development of self and others.

Scheduling and Operations

• Plan and maintain daily work schedules necessary for required performance of all Department functions, including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday and weekend schedules, and emergency on-call schedules after working hours.

Organizational Participation

• Participate in monthly hospital meetings.
• Participate in Committees as needed.

Occupational Safety and Health Management

• Comply with reasonable Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all OSH trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
• Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.

Prevention and Control of Infection

• Implement the NMC Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times.
• Maintain the strictest hand hygiene, including the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
• Maintain bare below the elbows protocol.
• Ensure environmental care standards, reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 3–5 years' post-qualification experience at Specialist level, independent of country.
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification or education programme (fellowship or diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (for example, BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP).
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration, such as Membership from Royal College, Arab Board Certification, MS, DM, MPhil, or an equivalent recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
