Sonographer (Tawam Fertility Center)

Role Overview

Sonographer at Tawam Fertility Center, SEHA, based at the fertility center. The role involves performing ultrasound imaging procedures independently or under supervision of a senior sonographer.

Role Purpose

Perform all sonography imagery procedures, analyze output, and report findings to the supervisor as needed, while maintaining equipment, ensuring diagnostic quality, and supporting clinical and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Ultrasound Procedures & Imaging

• Perform all ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols
• Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce images of high diagnostic quality
• Evaluate and assess ultrasound images produced for acceptable quality, appropriateness and completeness
• Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols
• Perform other related radiography (special) procedures as required
• Advise other staff when required on image quality and appropriateness
• Forward images to radiologist for review and reporting
• Liaise with radiologists to arrange further imaging or tests

Equipment & Safety

• Maintain responsible and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances and aids used in the department
• Report incidents and equipment faults or deterioration to senior staff in a timely manner
• Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking of supplies and equipment cleaning
• Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties
• Report shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, maintaining records for ordering and replenishments

Quality & Compliance

• Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place
• Conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures
• Ensure that standard operation procedures (SOP) and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections
• Comply with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable
• Comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety and infection control using interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection in conjunction with relevant departments
• Support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed

Documentation & Confidentiality

• Document all interventions in appropriate format
• Maintain strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures
• Ensure appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures

Patient & Staff Communication

• Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status
• Deal with patients and clinical staff initial enquiries and relay to clinical staff where necessary
• Provide advice to medical and technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions

Education & Development

• Participate in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in the safe and secure handling of equipment, including teaching, induction, peer review, case studies and clinical presentations
• Participate in the orientation and training of new employees and radiography interns
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or online education units
• Participate in department programs and committees, various hospital committees, and staff meetings if requested

General

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
• Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure, certification and other mandatory training within established time frames

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• For non-UAE nationals: Not less than 2 years post-graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography; of which not less than 2 years' experience as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital
• Alternatively for non-UAE nationals: Not less than 4 years post-graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography
• For UAE nationals: Not less than 2 years post-graduate experience in general radiography
