Role Purpose

To support student development by providing counselling and preventive interventions that enhance personal, social, and academic growth, while building strong relationships with students and families to address behavioral, social, and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities

Student Development & Support

• Monitor the progress of individual students.
• Help students enhance personal, social, and academic growth.
• Help students understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems.
• Emphasize preventive and developmental counselling to provide students with life skills needed to deal with problems before they worsen.

Family Engagement

• Make contact with parents to discuss student behavior.
• Identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that can affect a student's development.
• Consult with parents regarding referrals for interventions outside of school.

Bullying Prevention & Intervention

• Take steps to prevent bullying and support victims of bullying.

Group Counselling

• Identify areas appropriate for intervention in the form of group counselling.
• Regularly form and lead appropriate groups.
• Utilize both large classroom groups and small groups to make appropriate academic and behavioral interventions.

Career Counselling

• Coordinate with the Counsellors regarding career options for students.
• Provide appropriate information to students regarding careers.
• Assist the counsellors in providing students with information for career exploration and selection.
• Help students make appropriate academic course selections relating to their interests.
• Maintain an appropriate library and database relating to various careers for students to utilize in their career explorations.

Personal Counselling

• Work with individual students and groups of students regarding appropriate social development issues.
• Maintain an awareness of cultural influences regarding social development of adolescents.
• Monitor students who may be at risk regarding social issues.
• Make appropriate referrals for interventions outside of school.

Job Search Skills

• Help students develop job search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.

Conflict Resolution

• Provide special services such as conflict resolution classes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Education in Social Work.
• Minimum 1 year experience in school counselling or other counselling experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Appropriate license to carry out student counselling.
• Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents.
• Demonstrable organizational skills.
• Strong desire to help others and ability to inspire respect, trust, and confidence.
• High emotional and physical energy to handle the array of problems addressed.
• Awareness of cultural influences and regional values.

Additional Information

• Position requires UAE National status.
