Role Overview
Shop Operator - Rotor Repairs at Baker Hughes, providing service and manufacturing support for rotating equipment in the Industrial & Energy Technology division.

Role Purpose
As a Shop Operator under direct supervision, you will set up, monitor and operate various pieces of equipment associated with service and manufacturing facility requirements, including operation of multiple machines at one time. You will perform quality control and assurance activities as required by manufacturing and engineering specifications, internal procedures and ISO requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection and Repair
- Inspect and repair Centrifugal Compressor Rotors, Centrifugal Pump Rotors, Gas Turbine Rotors, and Gear Shafts.
- Perform visual inspection, geometrical inspection, non-destructive testing, and other tests as per requirements and data sheets.
- Record all test results in data sheets.
- Perform compressor rotor and pump rotor de-stacking (disassembly by flare) and stacking (assembly).
- Perform Gas Turbine Rotor Disk de-stacking (disassembly) and stacking (assembly).
Quality Control
- Own quality control of in-process parts, ensuring all parts are inspected after operations are completed.
- Record inspection results in data sheets.
- Perform product preservation as per procedures.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate Lathe Machines (Manual or CNC).
- Operate Low Speed Horizontal Balancing Machines, performing balancing checks and balancing activities to remove residual unbalance.
- Operate Vertical Balancing Machines, performing balancing checks and balancing activities to remove residual unbalance.
- Conduct machine tool preventive maintenance.
- Conduct daily maintenance checklists.
- Perform total run out testing.
Reporting & Evaluation
- Report on fixture and tooling performance and rigidity evaluation.
- Test new fixture designs and clamping methods.
- Raise HSE concerns and observations as per HSE per capita targets.
Continuous Improvement
- Perform 6S and housekeeping activities for machines (interior and exterior), workstations, and surrounding areas.
- Participate in improvement projects and implementation of lean manufacturing.
Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent level of education.
- Hands-on experience operating mechanical machines.
- More than 5 years experience in repair activities of rotating equipment (centrifugal compressors, centrifugal pumps, gas turbines, or gearboxes).
- Knowledge and experience performing several types of inspections, repairs, balancing, and testing of centrifugal compressors, centrifugal pumps, and gas turbines.
Skills & Competencies
- Mechanical aptitude or enthusiasm to learn and develop skill set in a hands-on environment.
- Capability, knowledge and skill to operate Lathe Machines (Manual or CNC).
- Capability, knowledge and skill to operate Low Speed Horizontal Balancing Machines.
- Capability, knowledge and skill to operate Vertical Balancing Machines.
- Experience in machining (preferred).
- Capability to perform total run out testing (preferred).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to be a valuable team player.

- The shop will initially operate during morning shifts only; however, the candidate must be able to work in a 2–3 shift pattern and work overtime if needed.
