Shift Engineer

Role Overview

Shift Charge Engineer at ACWA Power. Reports to the O&M Manager administratively and to Operations functionally. The role oversees and manages operational activities during the shift, monitors operational performance, and provides technical support to ensure efficiency, productivity, and safety of the plant while achieving shift production targets.

Role Purpose

To oversee and manage operational activities during the shift, monitor operational performance and provide technical support to ensure efficiency, productivity and safety of the plant, whilst achieving shift production targets.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Operations & Supervision

• Supervise team member activities and work during the shift to ensure targets and objectives are achieved and the business plan is delivered in line with required policies, processes, procedures and systems.
• Oversee day-to-day activities of shift staff and manage all plant operating activities to ensure they are executed in a safe and efficient manner and meet required targets.
• Monitor plant performance and provide operations engineering support addressing all process and operational related matters and activities during the shift to ensure optimal plant operations in a timely manner.

Performance Monitoring & Decision Making

• Monitor operational performance and make quick decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances, taking corrective actions during a state of emergency.
• Review all current work instructions, SOPs, processes and procedures and recommend necessary changes to the Operations Manager to ensure process efficiency and optimization of resources.

Technical Support & Optimization

• Provide technical expertise and support to the team and advise on optimization of operations for each unit in accordance with HSE policies and procedures to meet required standards.
• Implement special testing programs as necessary to evaluate and resolve process problems.
• Review operating logs, process control printouts, daily/weekly/special reports and participate in analysis of causes of problems, recommending changes or alterations to operating parameters to avoid recurrence.

Maintenance & Commissioning Coordination

• Collaborate with Maintenance team during the shift and ensure that minor and major activities including commissioning and start-up activities are completed in a safe manner as per the established plan.

Interdepartmental Coordination

• Coordinate with all other departments for activities related to plant operations during the shift and ensure their timely execution as per the plan.
• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external contractors.
• Promptly attend to all critical technical issues to ensure services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
• Represent the plant in all technical meetings to handle any escalated technical matters and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

• Ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSSE and permit to work system, instructions and controls and procedures to guarantee the safety of employees and environmental compliance.
• Monitor adherence to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls to guarantee the safety of employees and environmental compliance.
• Ensure that all accidents, incidents or near misses occurring during the shift are properly reported as per established procedures.
• Manage an emergency during the shift as per the company emergency response plan until relieved by a higher authority to ensure minimum impact of the hazard.

SAP Administration

• Administer SAP processes within the operations section and ensure adherence to SAP guidelines in all related aspects of annual and monthly planning, scheduling and data management.
• Review breakdowns, corrective maintenance notifications, create work orders and planning to ensure data and system integrity in line with defined standards.
• Ensure all system documents are up to date to comply with quality standards.

Continuous Improvement & Policy Compliance

• Adhere to all relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out to the required standard and in a consistent manner.
• Contribute to the identification and implementation of change initiatives, programmes and projects in line with the organization's standards.
• Perform any other duties which the line manager may require.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor degree in Engineering.
• 8 years' experience in water desalination and power generation plants.
• 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Knowledge of relevant plant equipment.
• Knowledge of operations in water desalination and power generation plants and of NOMAC operations.

Skills & Competencies

• SAP working knowledge (preferred).
• New IMS system awareness/working knowledge (preferred).
