Role Overview
Senior Staff Nurse at American Hospital Dubai, Al Khawaneej location. Manages the clinical aspect of the satellite clinic, ensuring coordination of patient care, smooth and safe patient flow, and compliance with policies and procedures. Works closely with the Patient Relations Supervisor and the Director of the Satellite Clinic.
Role Purpose
To deliver age-specific, patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process while managing the clinical operations of the satellite clinic. The role coordinates care delivery across a multidisciplinary team, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives quality improvement initiatives to achieve optimal patient outcomes and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care Delivery
- Provide age-specific patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process.
- Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific assessment techniques.
- Perform continual critical care assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
- Involve the patient, significant others, and health care providers in the plan of care when appropriate.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care.
- Coordinate and plan critical care and clinical pathways, prioritizing care based on individual needs.
- Revise the care plan as necessary.
- Initiate appropriate transfer plans.
- Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems.
- Maintain clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
Documentation & Compliance
- Document all relevant data in the medical record according to hospital and departmental standards.
- Ensure accurate nursing documentation is maintained according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Perform safe handling and administrating of Narcotic/Controlled and Semi-Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
- Assume responsibility for meeting Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) required mandatory education, including fire, safety, and infection control.
- Maintain mandatory educational requirements.
- Complete yearly critical care nursing competencies (basic).
Supervision & Team Management
- Assist staff nurses and care assistants in planning, implementing, and evaluating direct patient care.
- Ensure staff nurses' competencies and life support courses are up to date.
- Provide supervision and advice to nursing staff regarding patients' enquiries.
- Provide supervision and advice to Patient Relations Executive staff regarding patient inquiries.
- Ensure completion of unit competencies, including pain management and utilization of Emergency department devices.
- Maintain updated service-specific competencies according to guidelines.
Operations & Environment
- Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care.
- Perform clerical duties when needed.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Assist in creating a safe and friendly environment for all patients, their families, and other staff members.
- Ensure the Quality Round and quality checklist are met at all times; for any deficiencies, ensure an action plan is put in place and followed.
- Ensure clinic stock level is within the required Par level and work with Materials Management to decrease nonmoving and slow-moving items.
- Ensure monthly submission of the environmental rounds audit report and follow-up on deficiencies.
Patient Flow & Scheduling
- Maintain effective communication between patients, nurses, and physicians regarding follow-up care and instructions.
- Ensure nursing pre-screening is done 48 hours before any appointment.
- Follow up on all approved and not utilized tests and ensure that they are scheduled.
- Follow up with the insurance coordinator on all pending approvals and ensure all patients are updated on the status.
- Coordinate with the OR coordinator and the patient on operations to be scheduled as applicable.
- Ensure no walkouts take place in the clinic.
Quality & Safety Reporting
- Participate in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including data collection, CQI teams, incident reporting, customer complaint reporting, and medication error reporting.
- Promote incident, customer complaint, and patient satisfaction survey reporting to improve patient and family care.
- Participate in and maintain clinic-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPI) audits and other data, including nursing documentation, closing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) on time, checking Press Ganey, and addressing patient complaints.
- Prepare nursing clinical slides and include them in the monthly Quality Improvement meeting.
- Ensure all clinical KPIs are placed on a monthly basis on the Patient Safety Data Board.
- Close in a timely manner all safe points and ensure they are being addressed and root cause analysis is figured out.
Revenue & Business Operations
- Communicate with Patient Business Services and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) on operations that need further discounts.
Continuous Improvement & Professional Development
- Participate in staff meetings and unit committees and projects.
- Participate in developing and achieving unit goals.
- Participate in ongoing educational activities.
- Perform additional duties when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (minimum three years full-time course duration), or
- Degree in nursing (minimum two years course duration) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
- For UAE national graduates: exemption from experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title (must submit copy of birth certificate and mother's family book).
- For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: successfully complete six months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and assistant Nurse titles).
- Valid License or Registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
Professional Experience
- Minimum three to five years of recent post-graduate nursing experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age appropriateness and developmental needs of patients.
- Skills in assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
- Skills in coordination and planning of care and prioritizing care based on individual needs.
- Previous Team Leader or Senior Registered Nurse experience is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (minimum requirement).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (essential).
