Senior Software Engineer (Backend) at Bayut | dubizzle, located in the UAE. You will join a high-performing cross-functional squad delivering online classified platforms trusted by millions of users across the seven emirates.

Role Purpose

As a Senior Software Engineer I – Backend, you will advance the development stack and ensure technical scalability as the platform grows to millions of monthly active users across multiple countries. You will liaise with backend engineers, QA, design, and Tech Team Leads while guiding the technical direction and reliability of core systems.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

• Design and deliver multiple REST-based APIs with exposure to Service Oriented Architecture.
• Pioneer reliability and efficiency of the current codebase, platforms, and core systems.
• Architect solutions within your product stream.
• Lead product planning meetings and deliver detailed roll-out and roll-back strategies for releases.

Code Quality & Standards

• Write and maintain exemplary code following dubizzle's programming practices.
• Create unit tests in accordance with established standards to cover assigned work.
• Code-review all major pull requests, define programming standards, and provide constructive feedback.
• Establish and enforce design patterns including asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and persistence.

Development & Delivery

• Handle the entire software development life cycle end-to-end.
• Build complex problems and deliver practical, high-impact solutions.
• Gather an up-to-date, in-depth understanding of the dubizzle codebase and technology stack within weeks.
• Actively contribute to post-release maintenance issues.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

• Work in a mentoring capacity within a peer-programming environment and guide tasks irrespective of complexity or scale.
• Liaise with other backend engineers within your product stream.
• Liaise with QA, design, and Tech Team Leads.
• Liaise with other tech teams to share innovations from your stream.
• Provide constructive feedback and guidance on tasks and code quality.

Strategic & Operational

• Research and apply industry trends as part of daily work.
• Impact the direction and scope of dubizzle's technical vision within your stream.
• Capacity to push back requirements when incomplete.
• Prioritize tasks and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred.
• 6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience in Python (Django).
• Experience with cloud-hosted infrastructure and technologies; AWS preferred.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience working on high-traffic and large-scale web products.
• Experience with web infrastructure, Service Oriented Architecture, distributed systems, performance analysis, and search infrastructure.

Skills & Competencies

• Mastery of different caching layers and strategies, including memcached.
• Strong understanding of design patterns including asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and persistence.
• Mastery of testing methodologies including unit tests, component tests, and integration tests.
• Good understanding of build process management and continuous integration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical thinking, conceptual thinking, and detail-oriented mindset.
• Driven to gain insight into different new and old technologies.
