Role Overview

Senior Safety Officer-Facilities Maintenance at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

Role Purpose

Responsible for strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of safety, environment and emergency preparedness programs. This includes designing programs and procedures to control, eliminate and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors, and conducting inspections to enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Strategy

• Create procedures on safe work practices organization-wide, within specific departments, or for particular risk factors and issues within the workplace.
• Develop the hazardous materials program, including auditing and training.
• Ensure training and education is implemented, evaluated and improved on a regular basis.

Safety Assessments & Hazard Management

• Perform assessments of safety hazards, unsafe conditions, risks and practices within the workplace.
• Recommend a plan for safety based on assessment findings that minimizes risk and promotes safety.
• Collaborate with engineers and facility management staff to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
• Provide orders for suspension of activities that pose threats to patient, worker or visitor health and safety.

Monitoring & Compliance

• Ensure all departments are effectively monitored for compliance with safety standards and procedures.

Investigation & Documentation

• Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how similar accidents might be prevented in the future.
• Maintain the database and documents.
• Ensure all documents are in the appropriate format.

Qualifications & Experience

• Four to six years of relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Occupational Health, Safety, Environment or Industrial Hygiene, OR Diploma in relevant field with three years of additional experience required.
• Master's degree or equivalent in relevant field (desired).
• Experience in a large healthcare facility (desired).
