Role Overview
Senior Pilot at Smit Lamnalco, based in Saudi Arabia. This position reports to the Contract Manager.

Role Purpose
Assist, support and advise the bridge management team in the safe navigation and pilotage of vessels, with responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of pilotage duties on board sea going tanker vessels.
Key Responsibilities
Navigation & Pilotage
- Conduct safe and efficient pilotage duties on board sea going tanker vessels.
- Command ships to steer them into and out of harbors, estuaries, straits and sounds and on rivers and bays.
- Prevent ships from engaging in unsafe operations.
- Direct course and speed of ships on the basis of specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, water depths, tides, currents and hazards.
- Order crew at helm to steer ship and navigate ship to avoid hazards to shipping, utilizing navigation aids.
- Consult maps, charts, weather reports and navigation equipment to determine and direct ship movements.
Berthing & Mooring Operations
- Conduct safe berthing, mooring, un-mooring and unberthing operations of tanker vessels.
- Instruct tugboat captain(s) on the assistance required in berthing or unberthing operations.
- Provide assistance to ships approaching or leaving seacoasts, navigating in harbors, docking and undocking.
Communication & Compliance
- Operate ship-to-shore radios or other means of communication to exchange information needed for safe vessel operations.
- Advise ships' masters on harbor rules, terminal operations and customs procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience as a Harbour and SPM pilot in the maritime industry.
- Master Class 1 certification.
- IMO A960 training.
- Medical fitness certification required.
- Experience with local navigation rules and geography.
Skills & Competencies
- Fluent in English, verbally and written.
- Arabic language is an added advantage.
- Excellent communicator able to maintain high standards.
- Team player with a collaborative approach.
- Able to engage and partner at all levels.
