Senior Mechatronics Engineer
Anduril Industries
وصف الوظيفة
Role Overview
Senior Mechatronics Engineer at Anduril Industries, based in Abu Dhabi, supporting integration of electromechanical actuation, sensing, and control subsystems for the Omen autonomous air vehicle and payload module integration.
Company Overview
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. The company brings 21st-century innovation to defense, changing how military systems are designed, built, and sold. Anduril's systems are powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center.
The Maneuver Dominance team develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. Omen is Anduril's hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle that provides endurance, payload flexibility, and runway independence as a Group 3 platform. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, representing an order of 50 systems.
Role Purpose
Enable Omen's hover-to-cruise transition and payload integration by owning end-to-end electromechanical actuation, sensing, and control subsystems. Partner with the Costa Mesa engineering team and regional manufacturing and test partners to deliver operationally relevant payload and pointing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Mission and Systems Alignment
- Bridge the mission system team and air vehicle teams, ensuring both are in alignment.
- Interface with regional customers and partners to align and deliver on end-user requirements.
Payload Hardware Integration
- Own payload hardware integration end to end, including EO/IR and imaging sensors, RF payloads, gimbals, rangefinders, inertial and position sensing.
- Define and own payload interface control spanning mechanical mounting and alignment, power and signal definitions, harnessing, vehicle bus integration, and time synchronization.
- Support aircraft integration, bring-up, and functional checkout.
Design and Trade Studies
- Drive mission system selection through trade studies balancing performance, SWaP, thermal, latency, and environmental robustness.
Testing and Characterization
- Characterize sensors on the bench and in flight including noise, latency, bias and drift, boresight stability, and failure modes.
- Plan and execute ground and flight test campaigns for payload performance.
- Build and execute hardware test rigs with competence on oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and test automation.
Software and Firmware Development
- Write production software and firmware for payload subsystems including drivers, sensor processing, pointing and stabilization control loops, calibration and coordinate frame libraries, and health management.
Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement
- Lead root-cause investigations for payload and pointing anomalies spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software boundaries.
- Feed lessons learned back into ICDs, calibration procedures, and production assembly and acceptance test documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, or Physics.
- 4 or more years of hands-on electromechanical and sensor integration experience in robotics, aerospace, or similar.
- Experience with sensor characterization, calibration, and coordinate frame management such as cameras, IMUs, encoders, GNSS, or LIDAR.
- Proficiency across a meaningful portion of the robotics stack, from sensor interfacing to actuation.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic proficiency in scripting or programming, such as Python, MATLAB, C++, Bash, or Rust, to automate testing, collect data, or interface with onboard software.
- Solid grasp of low-level communications including Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C.
- Solid grasp of real-time systems and motor control.
- Ability to read schematics, support board bring-up, and define harnesses alongside electrical engineers.
- Familiarity with CAD such as SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent.
- High ownership and a bias toward action.
Additional Information
- Ability to travel 25% with potential surges above 25%.
- Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
- Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees, including health and recovery support.
