Senior Laboratory Technician - Drilling & Completion Fluids

Role Overview

Senior Laboratory Technician - Drilling & Completion Fluids at Baker Hughes. The internal title for this role is Services Specialist - Laboratory Specialist.

Role Purpose

Deliver flawless execution in drilling and completion fluids through involvement in pre-planning, job execution, and post-job analysis. Conduct drilling and completion fluids laboratory testing, quality testing based on API standards and Baker Hughes standards, and analytical work to support product and systems design, project troubleshooting, and performance analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Analysis

• Perform pilot testing on drilling and completion fluids on proposed mud program recipes and actual field mud and/or brine samples when required.
• Run permeability return and core flow tests to evaluate and select optimum mud cake breaker formulation.
• Run PPA/PPT (Permeability Plugging Apparatus/Test) and laser PSD (Particle Size Distribution) analyzer to evaluate and design RDF (Reservoir Drill-In Fluids) and Low Invasion Coring Fluids.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Perform QA/QC on proposed materials as per API Specs 13A, API RP 13B, API RP 13J, API RP 13I, OCMA, ANSI and ISO 13500-2009 latest edition testing procedures or as materials manufacturer's recommended QA/QC testing procedures.
• Prepare Certificate of Analysis (CoA).

Equipment & Operations

• Repair, maintain, and calibrate onshore and rig site testing equipment.
• Monitor and maintain safe stock level of all lab consumables and spare parts for smooth operations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Petroleum/Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling and completion fluids, working in a Mud Lab as a Chemist or Mud Lab Technician.
• Practical Mud Engineering experience is preferred.
