Senior interior designer

Role Overview

Senior Interior Designer at Retal, reporting to the Design Manager in the Development department.

Role Purpose

Design and develop interior design concepts with full packages including working drawings to create functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces by assessing space requirements, determining optimal furniture placement, and selecting decorative items, all while adhering to relevant blueprints, building codes, and inspection requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

• Design interior spaces, including permanent architectural details and temporary elements.
• Produce sketches, drawings, and floor plans to illustrate concepts and finished projects using computer-aided design programs (CAD) and hand-drawing skills.
• Create idea boards to communicate design concepts to clients.
• Select design strategies and color palettes to create cohesive and aesthetically pleasing environments.
• Enhance and improve interior spaces' functionality by modifying architectural elements and arranging furnishings, artwork, and decor.

Client Management

• Assess and meet client requirements and desires through regular meetings.
• Participate in regular networking opportunities and actively develop a client base.

Project Management

• Create project budgets, including materials and labor.
• Establish project timelines and coordinate work activity, vendor involvement, and outside contractors as necessary.
• Negotiate pricing for materials.
• Maintain relationships with vendors and outside contractors.

Compliance & Research

• Adhere to national and local building and safety codes with every design element.
• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Perform research and maintain a working knowledge of trends and new developments in the interior design and architecture worlds.

Collaboration

• Work closely with various colleagues, including architects, artists, contractors, painters, upholsterers, and building inspectors.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience required.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
• Ability to work well with management and staff at all levels.
• Goal-oriented, organized team player.
• Ability to use computer-aided design 3D MAX and Auto CAD.
• Ability to apply a sense of style to create aesthetically pleasing interiors.
• Strong visual design skills including proportion and aesthetics.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of contracts processes, policy, and systems.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to analyse problems and develop strategies for better solutions.
• Understanding of building codes and inspection regulations related to interior design.
• Ability to work to strict deadlines.
