Senior Hook Up Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Hook Up Engineer at McDermott, responsible for leading discipline-specific engineering activities and supporting the Hook-up Lead and Hook-up Manager during the construction, completion, and hook-up phases to deliver the overall project successfully and on schedule.

Role Purpose

Lead hook-up engineering discipline execution, solve complex technical problems, and drive continuous improvement in products and services through application of discipline-specific knowledge and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Scheduling

• Prepare and review Hook Up job cards, including prerequisites, with focus on sequential installations and relevant completion activities.
• Develop the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for discipline scope.
• Prepare the hook-up schedule for discipline-specific activities with efficient sequencing and synchronization with other disciplines.
• Develop and implement detailed hook-up plans and strategies for onshore and offshore projects.
• Ensure daily progress monitoring and reporting to planner.

Design & Engineering Review

• Review construction work packs for respective discipline and ensure compliance to project requirements.
• Review design Material-Take-Off (MTO) lists for discipline.
• Competently analyze technical documents, drawings, and specifications to identify discrepancies and propose corrective actions.
• Verify the MTO for offshore contingencies.

Material & Procurement Management

• Review material requisitions in compliance with project specifications prior to order.
• Coordinate deliveries of material to site (yard, port, offshore, or other onshore locations).
• Liaise with warehouse team to ensure project material receiving status and inspection clearance from Quality.
• Liaise with fabrication team and take handover of fabricated project material and other ship-loose material.
• Liaise with Hook-up material team and verify material bag and tag as per project requirement and as per Hook-up Job cards.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures to ensure safety during hook-up operations.
• Ensure compliance with project requirements, industry codes, and standards, including integration of environmental and sustainability aspects.
• Participate in Toolbox Talks (TBT).
• Ensure Permit-To-Work (PTW) requirements are fulfilled before commencing each site activity.
• Ensure compliance with Company QHSES policies.

Surveys & Progress Management

• Participate in pre-engineering survey, pre-construction survey, and post-installation survey.
• Develop the constructability log and monitor the closing of actions on weekly basis.
• Review hook-up progress register and confirm understanding of progressing methodology.
• Ensure progress register is in line with Hook-up Job cards for respective discipline.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management

• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, ensuring their adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
• Collaborate with project management and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of necessary resources, materials, and equipment.
• Liaise with commissioning team and understand systems priorities; ensure construction is planned accordingly.
• Ensure support with commissioning team to expedite vendor-related activities.
• Ensure scope familiarization with Hook-up Superintendent and offshore construction crew prior to offshore mobilization.
• Travel to offshore sites and onshore yard facilities for coordination and resolution of disciplinary interfaces.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
• 10+ years' experience in related offshore engineering fields.
• Strong knowledge of industry best practices, standards (API, ISO), and regulations related to hook-up activities.
• Professional certifications (such as PMI or equivalent) or training in project management would be an advantage.

• Proficiency in utilizing project management tools and software for planning, scheduling, and tracking hook-up and commissioning activities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively liaise with interdisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and clients.

• Demonstrated ability to resolve technical challenges, implement innovative solutions, and ensure continuous improvement.
• Proactive mindset with strong focus on safety, quality, and delivering projects within defined timelines and budget constraints.

Additional Information
