Senior Field Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Field Engineer at McDermott, working offshore to apply engineering practices and knowledge to improve field engineering discipline and deliver solutions across complex offshore projects.

Role Purpose

Act as a lead engineer offshore, applying field engineering expertise to resolve complex problems, prepare mitigation plans, and improve processes and services. Play a pivotal role with customers, clients, and project teams while maintaining specifications, standards, and McDermott guidelines and policies.

Key Responsibilities

Bid and Proposal Management

• Review all technical project documents upon contract award and identify discrepancies between pre-contract and post-contract documents and deficiencies in tender method statements.
• Attend bid interviews with local management and participate in global management reviews.
• Ensure all bid inputs have been reviewed and approved by the Division Manager and General Superintendent before submittal, with the Diving Manager to review and approve all diving estimates.
• Prepare technical clarifications and qualifications about scope of work, drawings, and specifications, submitting them to the Proposal Coordinator.
• Review the proposal document and identify work to be subcontracted if any.
• Review engineering-related information to ensure comprehensive and accurate data is included in bidding proposals.
• Prepare bid summary book for all offshore input for major proposals.
• Coordinate with other functions in the company in the preparation of the tender.

Planning and Scheduling

• Develop a plan and allocate resources for the project to ensure engineering deliverables are completed according to the agreed-upon schedule.
• Determine the sequence of work to be performed.
• Determine the equipment to perform the work based on availability, tender requirements, and management bid philosophy.
• Determine the crew make-up required for each phase of the project and update and circulate crew make-ups as required.
• Determine the duration of work using historical records for similar jobs where applicable.
• Prepare a bar chart schedule for marine work including vessel modifications and other preparatory work.
• Provide tender resource and scheduling information to the Administration and Planning group for financial forecasting purposes.

Documentation and Technical Delivery

• Lead the creation of installation documentation, procurement, and fabrication materials such as scopes of work, procedures, drawings, and sketches.
• Ensure accuracy of procurement, fabrication, and installation documentation, making sure they comply with contract requirements.
• Prepare written procedures on safe work methods which meet project requirements for inclusion in the technical bid submission.
• Coordinate with Construction Support Engineering to prepare technical drawings for bid submittals.
• Prepare Dive Task Plan for diving-related jobs.

Cost Planning and Estimation

• Prepare miscellaneous costs for offshore work including barge rig-ups, designs, port clearances, and project consumables, incorporating inputs from Diving, E&M, Safety, and identifying all other costs for compliance with tender documents.
• Prepare technical description and bid pricing structure for subcontracted work based on schedule and company specification in coordination with the Subcontracts Administrator and Proposal Coordinator.

Subcontract Management

• Offer support on engineering-related matters to the Project, Procurement, and Subcontracting Department, ensuring competent suppliers or service providers are chosen.
• Prepare technical description and bid pricing structure for subcontracted work. Typical subcontracts include: Survey, Dredging and Trenching, Pipe haul barges, Near shore crossing, and Pipeline pre-commissioning.
• Evaluate subcontract qualifications and make recommendations to the Proposals Coordinator for lump sum and miscellaneous costs.
• Review subcontract qualifications to incorporate into principal qualifications to the company.
• Provide response to technical clarifications from the tendering subcontractors if any.

Project Monitoring and Coordination

• Monitor the progress of the project section to prevent major issues or delays from occurring during the project.
• Coordinate with other departments within the project team to ensure smooth operations.
• Review Engineering studies conducted for the tender with regards to offshore operation.

Technical Evaluation

• Prepare Technical Bid Evaluation to finalize the installation vessels required for job execution.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• 7–9 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with major contractors or consultants.
• At least 2–3 years of operations and field engineering experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Thorough knowledge of Excel spreadsheet with Macro commands.
• MS Project scheduling software.
• AutoCAD.
• Basic knowledge in Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with subcontract activities.
