Role Overview

Senior Field Engineer at McDermott, based offshore. The role applies engineering practices and knowledge to improve the field engineering discipline, acting as a lead engineer and sharing conceptual and practical expertise. The Senior Field Engineer resolves complex problems, improves processes and services, and plays a pivotal role with customers, clients, projects, and service activities within specifications, standards, and McDermott guidelines and policies.

Role Purpose

To lead engineering excellence in field operations by providing technical solutions, preparing mitigation plans for complex challenges, and ensuring all project deliverables meet contract requirements, client specifications, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract and Bid Preparation

  • Review all technical project documents upon contract award and identify differences or discrepancies between pre-contract and post-contract documents and deficiencies in tender method statements.
  • Attend bid interviews with local management and participate in global management reviews.
  • Ensure all bid inputs are reviewed and approved by the Division Manager and General Superintendent before submittal, with the Diving Manager reviewing and approving all diving estimates.
  • Prepare technical clarifications and qualifications about the scope of work, drawings, and specifications and submit them to the Proposal Coordinator.
  • Review the proposal document and identify work to be subcontracted if any.
  • Review engineering-related information to ensure comprehensive and accurate data is included in bidding proposals.
  • Coordinate with other functions in the company in the preparation of the tender.
  • Prepare bid summary book for all offshore input for major proposals.

Planning and Resource Allocation

  • Develop a plan and allocate resources for the project to ensure that engineering deliverables are completed according to the agreed-upon schedule.
  • Determine the sequence of work to be performed.
  • Determine the equipment to perform the work based on availability, tender requirements, and management bid philosophy.
  • Determine the crew make-up required for each phase of the project and update and circulate crew make-ups as required.
  • Determine the duration of work, using historical records for similar jobs where applicable.
  • Prepare a bar chart schedule for the marine work including vessel modifications and other preparatory work.

Documentation and Technical Specifications

  • Lead in creating installation documentation, procurement, and fabrication materials such as scopes of work, procedures, drawings, and sketches.
  • Ensure the accuracy of procurement, fabrication, and installation documentation, making sure they comply with contract requirements.
  • Prepare written procedures on safe work methods which meet project requirements for inclusion in the technical bid submission.
  • Coordinate with Construction Support Engineering to prepare technical drawings for bid submittals.
  • Prepare Dive Task Plan for diving-related jobs.

Costing and Financial Planning

  • Prepare miscellaneous costs for offshore work, including barge rig-ups, designs, port clearances, and project consumables.
  • Consolidate offshore miscellaneous costs including inputs from Diving, E&M, Safety, and identify all other costs for compliance with tender documents.
  • Prepare technical description and bid pricing structure for subcontracted work based on schedule and company specification in coordination with the Subcontracts Administrator and Proposal Coordinator.
  • Provide tender resource and scheduling information to the Administration and Planning group for financial forecasting purposes.

Subcontract Management

  • Manage subcontracted work including Survey, Dredging/Trenching, Pipe haul barges, Near shore crossing, and Pipeline pre-commissioning.
  • Evaluate subcontract qualifications and make recommendations to the Proposals Coordinator for lump sum and miscellaneous costs.
  • Review subcontract qualifications to incorporate into principal qualifications to the company.
  • Provide response to technical clarifications from tendering Subcontractors if any.
  • Offer support on engineering-related matters to the Project, Procurement, and Subcontracting Department, ensuring that competent suppliers or service providers are chosen for the job.

Monitoring and Coordination

  • Monitor the progress of the project section to prevent major issues or delays from occurring during the project.
  • Coordinate with other departments within the project team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Review Engineering studies conducted for the tender with regards to the Offshore Operation.
  • Prepare Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) to finalize the installation vessels required for job execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Seven to nine years of experience in the oil and gas industry with Major Contractors or consultants.
  • At least two to three years of Operations and field Engineering experience.
  • Familiar with Subcontract activities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of Excel spreadsheet with Macro commands.
  • MS Project scheduling software.
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD.
