Role Overview

Wood PLC is seeking a Senior Engineering Systems Engineer to support future growth in its expanding business in Qatar. This is a long-term assignment based in Qatar.

Role Purpose

The Senior Engineering Systems Engineer will be responsible for the execution of project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and/or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control within man-hour, cost and project schedule targets. The role creates business growth through the practical application of technology, requiring a generalist with broad vertical understanding of the Wood organisation, broad horizontal understanding of client sectors, and understanding of technology and innovation. This role reflects market focus for both brownfield and greenfield opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy & Transformation

• Lead Wood's continued digital transformation ensuring IDT and business strategies remain aligned.
• Connect Wood core digital enablers to business needs, driving external growth opportunities and unlocking internal efficiencies in partnership with the business.
• Position Wood as a digitally enabled organisation and market leader.
• Provide digital leadership across the Wood business aligned with business needs to deliver digital objectives and realise expected benefits.
• Serve as the digital interface for IDT services out to the business, unlocking capabilities to deliver digital solutions efficiently and effectively.
• Continually refresh knowledge and awareness of new and emerging technologies and services within a variety of different industries and how they could be applied within the organisation in support of the Digital Strategy.
• Assimilate new products and technologies rapidly and elevate appropriate innovation opportunities where they can benefit the Wood business.

Technology Leadership & Advisory

• Establish trusted technology leadership providing digital knowledge and expertise.
• Align with Product Managers and remain aware of their latest developments to present a consistent message to the business.
• Align with IDT Business Partners presenting a consolidated and clear interface to the business.
• Understand Wood's core enablers.
• Co-create and drive the technology plan for Wood's "hero" solutions and the digital product lines that support them.

Stakeholder Management & Business Alignment

• Serve as a business focal point and escalation point for digital initiatives.
• Develop and nurture a network of cross-functional relationships across the business, IDT and in partner organisations to ensure that opportunities are identified, developed and implemented effectively.
• Connect and translate business needs into actionable digital initiatives that deliver strategic benefits to the organisation and its customers.
• Influence, build relationships and sell ideas to stakeholders, clients and partners, sometimes in challenging circumstances.

Project Execution

• Execute project work across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield and Greenfield scopes of work.
• Deliver work in accordance with project execution plans and procedures on Safety and Quality Control.
• Meet man-hour, cost and project schedule targets.

Qualifications & Experience

• Typically 10 years of established industry experience.
• Well-established industry reputation.
• Experience in Onshore Oil and Gas or Offshore Oil and Gas.
• Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
• Excellent understanding of business and technology trends, with strong understanding of underlying systems and data.
• Experience contributing to engineering discussions, technology decisions and strategy relating to delivering client-facing products.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of business processes, data and IT systems utilised within an industrial and corporate environment.

Skills & Competencies

• Positive and practical with ability to think strategically.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to understand how data-driven insights inform and unlock better decision-making and value generation.
