Role Purpose

The jobholder develops, designs, updates, and advises on the Energy Management System and practices to support energy performance for ocean-going vessels. The role ensures compliance with national and international maritime regulations, ADNOC Energy Management System guidelines, and best practices while improving the fleet's energy efficiency and leading energy certifications for ADNOC's L&S Fleets globally.

Key Responsibilities

Energy Performance Monitoring and Reporting

• Analyze and report on hull and propeller performance using data from automated logging units or daily noon reports.
• Monitor and report non-propulsion energy use and auxiliary boiler operations, ensuring accurate energy consumption tracking.
• Prepare and publish daily and monthly energy performance reports, analyzing performance across all significant energy-using assets and equipment.
• Oversee the monitoring, reporting, and analysis of fleet energy efficiency performance.
• Develop specifications and implement monitoring systems to track energy optimization performance.

Energy Efficiency Improvement

• Identify areas for operational improvement and follow up to ensure adherence to best energy practices.
• Oversee energy efficiency improvement projects, ensuring timely benefits and actions.
• Perform technical assessments to identify energy-saving opportunities, using advanced tools for data analysis.
• Provide insights to improve efficiency based on industry benchmarks and fleet performance analysis.
• Conduct energy audits and implement technical improvements and retrofitting activities.
• Research and implement new energy efficiency technologies, staying informed about industry trends.

Energy Management Systems and Standards

• Develop and maintain the Energy Management System to comply with international certification standards.
• Advise on energy management for updates and new projects to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical expertise to align with company strategy, ensuring compliance with energy efficiency regulations.
• Monitor compliance with international and local energy regulations, including IMO, EU MRV, and ECA.
• Conduct compliance audits and adapt processes as necessary to maintain standards.

Project Management and Strategy

• Develop and manage energy optimization projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals.
• Monitor resource utilization to optimize project efficiency.
• Lead initiatives to test and evaluate the feasibility of innovative solutions, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement and Compliance

• Evaluate and address major energy consumption discrepancies, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, classification societies, and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment with current standards.
• Represent the company in forums and meetings, fostering relationships with technology providers and consultants for continuous improvement.
• Act as a liaison between departments, ensuring technical requirements are understood and met.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare detailed technical and compliance reports, maintaining records of all relevant activities.

Training and Development

• Develop and deliver training programs on energy management practices to enhance team skills and knowledge.
• Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
• Promote knowledge sharing within the team to foster a collaborative learning environment.

Ad Hoc Support

• Support ad-hoc energy management tasks as directed or delegated by the Team Leader, such as conducting feasibility studies, liaising with stakeholders, or troubleshooting issues.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Advanced degree (Master's) in Marine Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or Project Management preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in energy management with significant technical experience in the maritime industry.
• Proven experience in managing energy optimization projects and conducting technical assessments.
• Demonstrated expertise in conducting technical assessments and managing complex energy optimization projects.
• Experience with energy technologies and energy efficiency measures.
• Experience in using advanced analytics and machine learning for energy optimization.
• Relevant shipping operations practices and optimization knowledge.

Skills & Competencies

• Developing energy balances and energy efficiency calculations for various types of processes, ships, and fuels.
• Energy Management Systems knowledge and understanding of applicable requirements and standards.
• Familiarity with energy-efficient technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Power BI and Microsoft Excel for energy performance monitoring, analyses, and verification.
• Strong technical knowledge of energy systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy efficiency measures.
• Expertise in using energy management software and tools.
• Proficiency in energy management software and tools.
• Familiarity with data analytics and project management tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct technical assessments and feasibility studies.
• Ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.
