Role Overview

Senior Designer - Structural - SP3D with Wood PLC, based in Abu Dhabi. This role delivers high-quality 3D structural design and modeling using SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) for ADNOC offshore projects, supporting detailed engineering activities within the Central Engineering Division.

Role Purpose

The Senior SP3D Structural Designer is responsible for delivering high-quality 3D structural design and modeling for ADNOC offshore projects, ensuring accurate, clash-free, and constructible structural designs in line with project specifications, ADNOC standards, and offshore execution requirements. The position plays a key role in coordinating across disciplines to ensure seamless integration of structural elements within complex offshore facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Modeling

• Develop and maintain detailed 3D structural models using SP3D for offshore oil and gas facilities, including jackets, topsides, decks, modules, and support structures.
• Produce accurate 2D drawings such as GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and isometrics derived from SP3D models.
• Incorporate vendor data, engineering inputs, and site requirements into structural models.

Standards and Compliance

• Ensure all structural designs comply with ADNOC standards, international codes, and project specifications.
• Maintain familiarity with international codes and standards including AISC, BS, API, and ISO.

Coordination and Integration

• Coordinate closely with piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure clash-free and integrated designs.
• Support interface management between engineering teams and offshore construction teams where required.
• Perform model reviews and participate in design review meetings, including 3D model walkthroughs with stakeholders and clients.

Constructability and Optimization

• Support constructability reviews and ensure designs are optimized for offshore fabrication and installation.
• Assist in resolving site queries, technical clarifications, and design changes during project execution.

Data Management and Quality

• Maintain model integrity, consistency, and data accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure timely delivery of design deliverables in line with project schedules and milestones.

Leadership and Mentoring

• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior designers and ensure adherence to project drafting standards and best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in structural design and drafting within the oil & gas industry.
• Proven experience working on ADNOC offshore projects or similar Middle East offshore developments is highly preferred.
• Strong hands-on expertise in SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) is mandatory.
• Extensive experience in offshore structural systems including jackets, topsides, pipe racks, platforms, and modules.
• Sound understanding of offshore design practices, fabrication methodologies, and installation constraints.
• Prior experience within a central engineering or shared services environment is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong proficiency in SmartPlant 3D (SP3D).
• Proficiency in related tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other 3D review platforms.
• Strong coordination skills with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
• Good communication skills and ability to interface with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced EPC/EPCM/PMC environment on multi-billion-dollar offshore projects.

Additional Information

Location

Position is based at ADNOC Offshore's office in Abu Dhabi. Due to the nature of the projects and client expectations, the role will be based at the Abu Dhabi office.
