Role Overview
Senior Commissioning Engineer at McDermott. This role applies commissioning expertise to improve McDermott's discipline standards, mentor less experienced colleagues, and deliver complex problem-solving across customer, operational, project, and service activities.
Role Purpose
Leverage best practices and discipline-specific knowledge to enhance the Commissioning function within McDermott. Act as a technical resource and mentor, solving complex problems and ensuring compliance with guidelines and policies while supporting colleagues and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Home Office & Deliverables
- Report to the Commissioning Manager and provide support to the Principal Commissioning Engineer in the preparation of home office deliverables
Site Execution & Testing
- Participate in walk-down inspections, punch listing, and testing including troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and instrument component issues
- Participate in Commissioning, Start-Up and Performance Testing
- Resolve operational and maintenance issues during Commissioning, Start-Up, and Performance Tests
- Operate and maintain Manuals development
- Develop Commissioning and Start-up Spares
- Develop First Fills and Consumables
- Develop Commissioning and Start-Up Procedures
- Conduct Discipline Equipment system checks and tests
- Perform function testing of mechanical, electrical, and instrument systems
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise craft personnel required for site pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
- Supervise Commissioning Engineers, Completions Specialists, Operation & Maintenance specialists, Designers, and support personnel within the function group
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Work collaboration within the Project team and with the Client to maintain positive relationships
- Coordinate activities with other engineers in the commissioning team
- Liaise with Commissioning Manager, Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, and Construction/Fabrication team
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering
- 8–15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a chemical, refinery, or oil and gas processing facility
- Preferably 2+ years of previous commissioning and start-up experience in the chemical, refinery, or oil and gas industry
- Good understanding of concepts, principles, and practices in commissioning, completions, and training
- Basic knowledge of other functions such as construction and operations & maintenance
- Understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions and concepts to both engineers and non-engineers
- Proficiency in English; multi-language skills a plus
- Good computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Good organizational skills and adaptability to the needs of various discipline groups
- Ability to assess and communicate project requirements and expectations in a clearly defined, positive, and productive manner
Additional Information
- Willing and able to travel to construction sites on assignments to international sites
