Senior Civil/Structural Designer

Role Overview

Senior Civil/Structural Designer at McDermott. The role completes a variety of Civil/Structural Design assignments with limited supervision and serves as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience in the discipline.

Role Purpose

Deliver high-quality Civil and Structural design drawings and 3D models that meet project requirements, client standards, and Health and Safety policies. Provide technical solutions to atypical problems based on established precedents and directly impact team work quality.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

• Prepare and develop arrangement and detail design drawings of high technical quality with professional consistent presentation, ensuring clarity and ease of construction.
• Develop 3D models and ensure clash-free coordination with all other disciplines' requirements.
• Prepare Civil and Structural layouts from data generated by others in close liaison with Civil and Structural Engineers and counterparts from other disciplines.
• Check designs with particular emphasis on interfaces with other disciplines.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure work complies with MDermott and project Quality Assurance and/or Quality Control systems and procedures.
• Ensure work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with particular focus on Health and Safety Policies.
• Become fully familiar with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address them.

Technical Support

• Apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work.
• Provide drafting support as required.
• Review other discipline drawings.
• Review supplier drawings.
• Organize own design work.

Continuous Development

• Continue developing skills to efficiently complete repetitive tasks.
• Become familiar with the use of codes and standards.
• Manage learning of future current working methods and software applications.

Flexibility & Collaboration

• Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards.
• Support replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays.
• Provide assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload, including other projects, when possible or desirable.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School graduate with a diploma in Civil or Structural disciplines or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years with a major contractor or consultant.
• Familiarity with codes and standards.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of 2D and/or 3D drafting systems (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Knowledge of E3D and/or S3D.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or AutoLISP Programming, 3D Modeling, and 2D Drafting.
• Menu and/or Macro compilation skills.
• Working knowledge of English, both oral and written.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) awareness.
