Role Overview
Senior Backend Engineer at TAWANTECH. This role designs, develops, and optimizes complex backend systems and services, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability while contributing to technical standards and engineering improvements.
Role Purpose
To design, develop, and optimize complex backend systems and services, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability while contributing to technical standards and engineering improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
- Own delivery of complex features end to end, from technical design through production.
- Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication.
Event-Driven Architecture
- Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and enterprise messaging.
Security & Quality Standards
- Ensure solutions meet security, performance, availability, and maintainability requirements.
- Apply secure coding practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the squad.
Production & Reliability
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Contribute to technical design decisions and application architecture.
- Identify technical debt and drive improvements to design and code quality.
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter.
Infrastructure & Deployment
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 4 years of backend engineering experience.
- Payments or regulated financial services experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong REST API design.
- Strong SQL.
- Strong Git.
- Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, and distributed systems (Good to have).
