Role Overview
Senior Backend Engineer at ImagineArt, remote, full-time position. This is a hands-on architect role designing and writing code for a bootstrapped GenAI platform serving image and video generation at real scale.

ImagineArt is a bootstrapped GenAI platform serving image and video generation. The company operates at real scale with Fortune 500 clients, $35M+ ARR, and high-volume traffic. Decisions are made by engineers and founders, with no VC treadmill pressure.
Role Purpose
Own the architecture and implementation of backend systems that power generation pipelines, inference orchestration, and infrastructure supporting image and video generation at scale. Drive technical direction through hands-on design, code ownership, and team mentorship while keeping latency low and cost efficient as traffic and volume grow.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & System Design
- Design and own backend systems handling high-throughput, asynchronous workloads including generation queues, worker orchestration, and media processing.
- Architect for scale and reliability by making decisions on data flow, service boundaries, and failure handling.
- Defend architecture decisions with explicit tradeoffs rather than buzzwords.
Pipeline & Infrastructure Optimization
- Build and optimize asynchronous pipelines including job queuing, retries, backpressure, dead-letter handling, and request flow management.
- Improve performance and cost at the infrastructure level, treating efficiency as a product feature given the expense of inference.
Technical Leadership
- Set technical direction and raise the engineering bar for the team through code review and mentorship.
- Work independently in a fast, low-process, bootstrapped environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of strong backend experience with real ownership of production systems at scale.
- Proven system design skills with demonstrated ability to make and defend architecture decisions.
- Hands-on experience with asynchronous pipelines and message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
- Experience in high-concurrency, high-throughput environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Distributed systems and worker orchestration.
- Experience with Go is preferred, or willingness to work in Go for backend development.
- Exposure to ML/AI infrastructure, GPU workloads, or media processing pipelines is a plus.
- GitHub signal and track record of open source contribution is valued.
