Role Overview

Section Supervisor - Anatomic Pathology & Cytopathology at American Hospital Dubai.

Role Purpose

Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology Section in the Laboratory, ensuring compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards while managing staff, quality systems, instrumentation, and bench operations.

Key Responsibilities

Training and Supervision

• Train, supervise, and ensure assigned staff performance meets standards.
• Support Laboratory staff at all levels to maintain morale and proper working environment.
• Provide direction in the performance of staff duties.
• Assist in staff assessment and development.
• Prepare monthly schedule for technical staff assigned.
• Conduct periodic reviews of methods and staff competence assessment records.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Ensure the Laboratory's protocols achieve ongoing compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards.
• Assist in maintaining accreditation standards.
• Participate in daily Quality Assurance systems and measures.
• Oversee the Quality Control Program.
• Supervise the Proficiency Testing program and review results.
• Perform Method Evaluation, Validation and Set-up.

Clinical Operations

• Perform daily cytology routine processes from preparation to screening and signing out.
• Screen cervical (Gyn) and non-Gyn samples as primary responsibility.
• Perform daily onsite evaluation and adequacy assessment in the Radiology, Operating Room (OR) and Endoscopy units.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

• Provide troubleshooting support for instrumentation, procedures, and quality control issues.
• Provide computer support for general and laboratory computing needs.

Materials and Operations Management

• Supervise reagent and supplies inventory.
• Tabulate monthly, yearly, and any other statistical data as required.
• Participate in strategic Laboratory plan for operations and marketing.
• Participate in short and long-term goals for laboratory operations.
• Participate in the Laboratory monthly focus group.

Safety and Ethics

• Promote a safe working environment.
• Promote ethical practices and maintain patient confidentiality.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory, Cytology, or related field.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisor experience in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology.
• Knowledge of Core Laboratory Sections.
• Knowledge of Accreditation Practices such as College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA).

Skills & Competencies

• Skills in laboratory and general computer applications preferred.
• Ability to speak and write in English fluently.

Additional Information

• Current/Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License required.
