Scrap Conductor.EF Supply & Slag Handling

Role Overview

Scrap Conductor, EF Supply & Slag Handling at Qatar Steel, responsible for managing scrap supply, logistics coordination, and material handling for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operation.

Role Purpose

Ensure safe, timely, and contamination-free supply of scrap materials to the EAF in accordance with production demand and quality specifications, while maintaining operational safety and effective communication across all production units.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Operation

• Identify all scrap supplied to EAF in accordance with demand and take appropriate measures to ensure scrap quantity and quality conform to specification in the charging basket and avoid mixing.
• Identify and segregate scrap contamination materials such as non-ferrous, non-conductive, oversize, airtight and explosive materials to maintain safe supply to EAF.
• Monitor and control outsourced logistics and operatives to supply different materials at various locations to meet steel-making requirements and ensure raw materials are supplied without contamination that may harm, interrupt or reduce quality.
• Prepare, receive and provide scrap baskets in sequence with safe hanging condition as per the basket schedule pattern.
• Ensure and validate communication channels to maintain effective communication with co-workers and support teams through TMR to run smooth operations.
• Communicate and check frequently with EAF, Truck Scale and production units to meet steel-making requirements.
• Implement both planned and unplanned changes to operation and process control as directed by supervisor and adopt changes in work scenarios.
• Maintain routine inspection on scrap baskets and preparation areas to avoid interruption in facility operations.
• Perform housekeeping at basket platform, basket pit, scrap yard and all related work areas for smooth operational activities.
• Communicate all issues and unsafe conditions of the work area to shift in charge to enable appropriate supervisory action.
• Communicate with reliever about current operational status and parameters to act accordingly.

Reporting

• Prepare check sheets for the condition of the Pulpit (Basket preparation area).
• Report basket condition, bottom leakage in PMMS while supplying and to shift in charge for immediate resolution.
• Confirm charge mix and basket charge timing in PMMS with EAF control room.

• Follow all relevant departmental policies, standard operating procedures and instructions to ensure work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

• Comply with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
• Ensure full adherence to all operating procedures and HIRA consistently; understand and follow safety precautions during handling and dumping of molten slag.
• Participate in activities to identify Hazard & Risk Assessment and Job Cycle Check to implement proper corrective action.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.

Qualifications & Experience

• Secondary School or Technical School graduation.
• Technical Diploma preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in a similar role.

Skills & Competencies

• Specific knowledge and understanding of process operation.
• Planning and organizing skills.
• Complete knowledge of operating and safety procedures and standards.
• English language skills – written and spoken (must).
• Arabic language (preferred).
• Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) awareness and ability to promote SHE awareness among subordinates.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and sometimes independently with minimal supervision.
• Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office for report writing and presentation.
