RPA Aircraft Mechanic I / Deployment Pool (K)

Role Overview

RPA Aircraft Mechanic I / Deployment Pool at Amentum. This is a deployment-pool position requiring support to various CONUS and OCONUS locations as assigned. The role requires flexibility in supporting assigned deployment and work schedules. USAF equivalent position is Aircraft Mechanic Apprentice.

Role Purpose

Perform and inspect organizational and intermediate level maintenance and modifications on RPA systems and support equipment. Apply basic technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting Air Force technical orders, manufacturers' manuals and instructions, and similar documents through the use of test equipment and instruments to affect repairs.

Key Responsibilities

Launch and Recovery Operations

• Perform all daily launch and recovery duties in support of operational requirements.

Aircraft Inspection and Maintenance

• Inspect, service, repair, and overhaul aircraft, aircraft engines, and other critical components to ensure airworthiness.
• Apply logic and good judgment, understand basic technical order diagrams and procedures, and use test equipment for analysis of airframes, engines, flight controls, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical and electronic systems and problems.
• Perform aircraft services including engine flushing and cleaning, parts lubrication, and required maintenance checks.
• May service engines and airframe components at flight line operations, making repairs short of overhaul as required to ensure aircraft safe operating conditions.

Structural and Component Repair

• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, landing gear, power plants and trains, fuel systems, and functional components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet guns and drills.
• Adjust, repair, or replace instruments, flight controls, electrical and electronic, fuel and oil systems and aircraft accessories.
• May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies.

Engine and Powerplant Maintenance

• Inspect and repair power plant malfunctions, including cracked components and oil leaks.
• Diagnose malfunctions, isolate causes and correct breaks using test equipment to locate source of malfunction.
• Test engine operations and use test equipment to locate source of malfunction.
• Replace and repair damaged components and remove engine and major components from aircraft using hoist or other lifting devices.
• Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
• Repair and replace defective engine components and reassemble and install engines in aircraft.

Inventory and Scheduling

• Support aircraft utilization and maintenance activity schedules.
• Maintain accurate parts inventory during all maintenance activities.
• Perform maintenance and repair tasks and ensure their successful completion.

Process Improvement

• Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.

General Duties

• Must be able to work with little to no supervision.
• Perform all other duties as assigned as requested.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or completion of relevant military and/or vocational technical school curriculum required.
• Minimum of one year of actual Aircraft Mechanic maintenance experience required.
• Basic knowledge of basic and complex mechanical maintenance and repair.
• Basic knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft mechanical maintenance.
• Knowledge of theory and principles of operation of engines, accessories and components, theory of flight and electronic flight controls, and basic understanding of applicable systems.
• Ability to inspect and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
• Must achieve a passing grade in all required courses and certifications for continued employment as needed.
• Associate degree in a relevant career field (preferred).
• FAA license as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (preferred).
• Aircraft Mechanic experience within the last 10 years (preferred).
• MQ-9 experience as an Aircraft Mechanic (preferred).
• MQ-9 Aircraft Composite Repair and Replacement experience (preferred).
• RPA Deployment experience (preferred).
• Prior experience as a Defense Contractor (preferred).

Skills & Competencies

• Apply basic technical knowledge to solve complex problems.
• Interpret Air Force technical orders, manufacturers' manuals and instructions and similar documents.
• Use test equipment and instruments to affect repairs and diagnose malfunctions.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet guns, drills, hoist and other lifting devices, gauges and test equipment.
• Lift, carry and wear Military Issued Equipment in excess of 50 pounds for extended periods.
• Speak, read, write and understand English.

Additional Information

Deployment and Location Requirements

• Member will be part of the Deployment Pool and required to support deployments to various CONUS and OCONUS locations as required.
• Must meet all OCONUS deployment criteria, including pre-deployment medical screening, as a condition of employment.

Security and Clearance

• Must have had an Active Secret US Government Clearance within the last 12 months. US citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.
• Must submit updated SF-86 within 30 days of hire start date.

Travel and Documentation

• Must have current and active State Issued Driver's License.
• Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid flight-line Government Driver's License.
• Must have valid U.S. Passport with a minimum of two years remaining with at least two facing pairs (four total) of blank Visa pages.
• Highly desired to have a U.S. Passport valid for an additional two years with at least two facing pairs (four total) of blank Visa pages (preferred).

• Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated with booster. Accommodations may be available under limited circumstances.
