Role Overview
Resident Engineer - Electrical, Overhead Transmission Lines with WSP Middle East. This role manages electrical overhead transmission line projects across all phases, from initiation through closeout, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
Role Purpose
Lead and manage all aspects of overhead transmission line projects from initiation to closeout, ensuring adherence to project objectives, schedules, and budgets while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage all aspects of overhead transmission line projects from initiation to closeout.
- Ensure adherence to project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Develop project plans including scope definition, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Manage project documentation including contracts, permits, NOCs, drawings, and reports.
- Facilitate regular progress review meetings.
- Conduct project scope review and verification.
Design & Engineering Compliance
- Review engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for overhead transmission lines.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- Address technical inquiries, resolve disputes, and mitigate project risks.
Procurement & Coordination
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to procure materials, equipment, and services.
- Ensure materials and equipment meet project specifications and quality standards.
Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Supervise construction activities including tower erection, conductor stringing, and installation of hardware and accessories.
- Monitor work for quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality assurance checks.
- Identify issues and resolve construction-related challenges in a timely manner.
- Witness site acceptance and factory acceptance tests.
- Witness commissioning of the line.
- Verify all as-built documents.
- Verify and certify materials, work measurements, and complete the project closeout process.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Conduct HSE auditing and reporting on work activities.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols throughout the project lifecycle.
- Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and excellence among project team members.
- Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Support the Principal Resident Engineer or Project Manager.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and facilitate project communication and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on overhead line projects.
- Extensive knowledge of transmission line design, construction, and maintenance practices including tower configurations, conductor types, and insulation methods.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering software and tools for overhead transmission line work.
Additional Information
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate project requirements.
