Registered Nurse

Role Overview

Registered Nurse at NMC Healthcare. The post holder will always work within the scope of practice, putting the health, wellbeing and safety of their patient first as they assess, plan, implement and evaluate their needs.

Role Purpose

Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care across clinical settings, assess and monitor patient needs, implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with the interprofessional team, and maintain the highest standards of patient safety and clinical competency.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Diagnosis

• Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
• Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Perform assessment and reassessments on patient as per assessment policy.
• Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
• Conduct focused physical examination.

Care Planning & Coordination

• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.
• Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care.
• Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer and discharge.
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
• Preparation of patient for Emergency surgeries.

Clinical Procedures & Technical Skills

• Perform routine and advanced nursing procedures and skills.
• Perform initial screening including vital signs.
• Perform ECG.
• Perform insertion of IV cannula.
• Perform sign in, time out and sign out verification.
• Assist with suturing.
• Assist with foreign body removal.
• Assist with incision and drainage.
• Assist with PAP smear.
• Assist with high vaginal swab.
• Assist with wound dressing.
• Assist with suture removal.
• Provide wound care management.
• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
• Assist physician with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.

Patient Monitoring & Safety

• Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.
• Accurately monitor and record patient's condition.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.
• Performs nursing care for patient who visit Primary Care department in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of health care errors.
• Ensure complete care and safety of patients in the assigned clinic.
• Report any abnormality in a patient's condition immediately to the medical staff and escalate as and when required.
• Monitor patients for any reactions following treatment administration.

Emergency Response & Life Support

• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support.
• Demonstrate proficiency in emergency procedures, equipment, and protocols relevant to the department.

Patient Education & Support

• Educate patients and the public about various health conditions.
• Provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Demonstrate on understanding and utilization of evidence-based health care.

Documentation & Records

• Document on patient record as per current standards and policies.
• Ensures investigation reports are available for consultation if applicable.

Professional Development & Competency

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Participate in ongoing programs and certification to support professional growth and maintain clinical competency.
• Competent with all the mandatory and unit specific competencies supported and assigned on the Elsevier platform to ensure adherence to evidence based practices.
• Competent in all aspects of nursing care.

Compliance & Operations

• Comply with unit Scope of Service.
• Organization of assigned duties.
• Able to function efficiently in patients care within the assigned clinic and relieve other nursing units in the hospital if necessary.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order, reporting any fault to Nurse Manager or Engineering.

Clinical Judgment & Decision-Making

• Must have excellent observation skills, able to think critically and to make quick and effective decisions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.

Skills & Competencies

• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
• Able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, spoken and written.

Additional Information

• Manage their own professional re-licensure.
• Be willing to work across departments and on call when necessary.
