Registered Nurse - OPD (Sharjah)

Role Overview

Registered Nurse - OPD (Outpatient Department) at NMC Royal Hospital in Sharjah. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient needs while prioritizing health, wellbeing and safety at all times, working within the scope of professional practice.

Role Purpose

Deliver comprehensive nursing care in the outpatient setting by assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans in collaboration with the interprofessional team, and providing patient education and emotional support to patients and their family members.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Care Planning

• Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collection of pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
• Understand and analyze assessment information and data.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems and issues.
• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.
• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.

Patient Monitoring & Vital Signs

• Record vital signs and recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.
• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.

Clinical Procedures & Interventions

• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
• Provide wound care management.
• Assist in medical procedures, invasive or non-invasive, as needed.
• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope, such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation.

Patient Education & Support

• Provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Educate patients and the public about various health conditions.

Patient Admission, Transfer & Discharge

• Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer and discharge.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

• Work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.
• Work as part of an interprofessional team.
• Be willing to work across departments when necessary.

Professional Development & Standards

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.

Documentation & Administration

• Use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all qualifications and experience mandated by that authority.
• Manage own professional re-licensure.
• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.

Skills & Competencies

• Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
• Demonstrate organizational and administrative skills.
• Demonstrate ability to work as part of an interprofessional team.
