Registered Nurse - LTC

Role Overview

Registered Nurse - LTC at NMC Royal Hospital. This role provides direct patient care in a long-term care setting, working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Role Purpose

Deliver comprehensive nursing care by assessing patient needs, implementing treatment plans, monitoring health outcomes, and coordinating care with physicians and allied health professionals across various clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Care Planning

• Perform systematic patient assessment and re-assessment, collecting pertinent health data.
• Understand and analyse assessment information and data.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Define predicted and expected outcomes of planned patient care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team in collaboration with the patient and patient's family members.

Direct Patient Care

• Provide and coordinate patient care, educating patients and the public about health conditions.
• Provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Record vital signs, recognize, address, and escalate all abnormalities.
• Administer medications and monitor patients for side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor for reactions.
• Provide wound care management.
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
• Assist in medical procedures, invasive or non-invasive, as needed.

Clinical Skills & Safety

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope, including Basic Life Support.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
• Ensure competence in pain management.

Admissions, Transfers & Discharge

• Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer, and discharge.

Emergency & Continuity

• Support execution of business continuity plans by maintaining essential nursing services during emergencies.
• Follow established protocols to ensure patient safety.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to sustain operational effectiveness.

Quality & Performance

• Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution in home country.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, including recent assignment in ICU, Critical Care, long-term care unit, or equivalent experience within Homecare settings in the same cluster.
• Appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all qualifications and experience these mandates require.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
• Ability to manage own professional re-licensure.

Desirable

• Evidenced ability to work as part of an interprofessional team.
• Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic.

• Willingness to work across departments when necessary.
