Role Overview
Registered Nurse - ICU at NMC Healthcare. The post holder will work collaboratively with other team members, uphold and live the NMC Nursing Strategy in order to provide safe and outstanding care to patients, to the patients' bystanders all the time, every time.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Care Planning
- Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
- Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
- Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
- Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.
- Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.
Clinical Monitoring & Vital Signs
- Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.
- Monitor patients for any side effects and reactions to medications.
- Monitor patients for any reactions to treatments such as IV fluids or blood products.
Medications & Treatments
- Predominant role in preparation, administration and documentation of medication.
- Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
- Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
- Provide wound care management.
ICU-Specific Procedures
- Assist in all procedures related to ICU including inserting all invasive lines, CRRT, Haemodialysis, LP, all types of draining, Tracheostomy insertion, cardiac output, IABP, and Thermoregulation.
- Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation.
- Demonstrates competency in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and participates as a member of Code Blue hospital wide.
- Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
Patient Preparation & Support
- Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
- Provides comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative nursing care to all surgical patients.
- Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
- Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
- Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentation and medical records as per hospital policy and procedure.
- Follows the reporting mechanisms and chain of command in the nursing services department. All patient care issues shall be correctly and promptly reported.
Professional Development
- Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
- Manage their own professional re-licensure.
Patient Transfer & Transport
- Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer and discharge.
- Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities and serves as transport nurse for patients during ambulance transport.
Resource Management
- Demonstrates an economical approach to the utilization of equipment and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate ward stock.
Interprofessional Collaboration
- Work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
- Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
Skills & Competencies
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
- Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.
- Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
- Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
- Be able to communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
