Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology

Role Overview

Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology at King's College Hospital London. This is a specialized nursing role focused on performing and managing sophisticated gastrointestinal motility and procedural tests within the Gastroenterology department.

Role Purpose

Support the complete patient journey in gastroenterology diagnostics, from pre-procedure education and preparation through procedure execution and post-procedure care. Collaborate with gastroenterologists and the healthcare team to deliver expert, patient-focused care while ensuring diagnostic tests yield accurate and reliable results.

Key Responsibilities

Motility and Procedural Testing

• Perform and assist with gastrointestinal motility studies, including oesophageal manometry, pH impedance, anorectal manometry, rectal compliance, and sensation testing.
• Administer breath tests, including Glucose/Lactulose Breath Tests and Gastric Emptying Breath Tests, in accordance with approved protocols.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure support for Colon Capsule Endoscopy and Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy, including bowel preparation verification and data processing for physician interpretation.
• Ensure correct technique application and optimal functioning of all motility and diagnostic equipment.

Patient Care and Safety

• Monitor patients' vital signs and physical and emotional wellbeing throughout procedures and recovery.
• Identify and respond promptly to complications or adverse reactions, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, preparation requirements, dietary modifications, and medication adjustments.

Care Coordination

• Coordinate with referring physicians to verify orders, review patient history, ensure test appropriateness, and manage appointment scheduling efficiently.

Organizational and Compliance

• Comply with all organizational and departmental policies, procedures, legal requirements, and applicable regulations at all times, and take personal responsibility to read, understand, follow and keep updated with the latest versions.
• Maintain confidentiality of all organizational, patient, client, and employee information in accordance with policies and laws.
• Avoid and report any actions that may cause financial loss, reputational damage, or breach of trust to the organization, including fraud, dishonesty, or misrepresentation, which may result in disciplinary action, termination, and legal liability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration).
• Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
• UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
• Minimum two years of work experience in a hospital or similar healthcare setting.
