Role Overview

Radiographer - CT at SEHA HOSPITALS, responsible for independently or under the supervision of senior radiographers performing all CT imagery procedures, analyzing output, and reporting to supervisor as needed.

Role Purpose

To perform all CT imaging procedures in accordance with department policies and protocols, produce diagnostic-quality images, evaluate image quality, and forward images to radiologists for review and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Technical Duties

• Perform all CT imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures, and protocols
• Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce images of high diagnostic quality
• Perform other related radiography (special) procedures as required
• Evaluate and assess CT images produced for acceptable quality, appropriateness, and completeness; advise other staff when required
• Forward images to radiologist for review and reporting
• Conduct all preparations, cannulations, and administrations of IV contrast agents under the supervision of supervisor or physician
• Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols
• Operate advanced software on specialist radiological equipment including bolus tracking, image reconstructions, quantifications, and dynamic imaging
• Provide advice to medical and technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions
• Liaise with radiologists to arrange further imaging or tests

Equipment & Safety

• Ensure safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances, and aids used in the department
• Report any incidents, equipment faults, or deterioration to senior staff in a timely manner
• Comply with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable
• Comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety and infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection
• Document all interventions in appropriate format

Inventory & Maintenance

• Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties
• Report shortage of materials to supervisor or senior radiographer CT at earliest convenience
• Maintain records for ordering and replenishments
• Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking of supplies for subsequent use and equipment cleaning
• Ensure that standard operation procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections

Quality & Compliance

• Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place
• Conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures
• Comply with and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed
• Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures
• Ensure appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures

Patient & Staff Communication

• Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family, and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders, and communicate status
• Deal with patients and clinical staff initial enquiries and relay to clinical staff where necessary

Education & Training

• Participate in education sessions for department staff, doctors, and nurses in the safe and secure handling of equipment, including teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations
• Participate in orientation and training of new employees and radiography interns
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars, or online education units

Departmental Involvement

• Participate in department programs and committees, various hospital committees, and staff meetings if requested

Administrative & Regulatory

• Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure, certification, and other mandatory training within established time frames
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience with helical or spiral scanning in an acute care hospital, OR minimum 4 years post-graduate experience with helical or spiral scanning in an acute care hospital
