Role Purpose
The QC Inspector - Welding controls quality activities in accordance with the established quality management system, ensures all work conforms to project requirements and international codes and standards, and systematically identifies and mitigates potential risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection Planning & Execution
- Establish inspection and test plans and record forms according to project requirements and international codes and standards.
- Manage and perform inspection on the welding discipline.
- Carry out inspections and tests to determine whether work performed conforms to quality requirements and record results.
- Set and apply practical inspection processes for the welding discipline based on project requirements and international codes.
- Perform and coordinate inspection with the client.
Quality Control & Oversight
- Control inspection status through efficient tools such as inspection matrices.
- Establish systematic tools such as inspection matrices to control inspection.
- Prepare inspection records to be reflected in Management of Change documentation.
- Review and validate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) under QC Supervisor or QC Manager direction.
- Control Quality Performance Indicators to achieve target metrics.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Forecast potential risks of the welding discipline and take preventive actions.
- Strive to find potential risks and take preventive actions.
- Ensure lessons learnt are applied and proper preventive action is conducted.
Additional Duties
- Carry out QC Engineer or Senior Supervisor responsibilities in their absence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field.
- 10+ years of experience in QA/QC inspections from project starts to completion.
- Familiarity with project specifications and standards, and medium to large-sized project experience.
- Experience in oil, gas, petrochemical, or power plants.
- Engineering and Construction Company working experience in the GCC region.
Skills & Competencies
Certifications - Welding
- AWS certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or
- TWI CL certification as a CSWIP 3.1 WI, or
- An approved equivalent certification level and scheme.
Certifications - Additional Disciplines
- Mechanical: API 510, 570, 653 (for inspection of pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks).
- Coating: SAEP-316 Level II by NACE as CIP, or SSPC as PCI, or TWI CL as BGAS-CSWIP, or an approved equivalent certification scheme required for the work.
- Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Level II.
- ASNT Level II or III.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply advanced inspection techniques and tools, material testing methods, and documentation practices.
- Lead and mentor team members.
- Analyze and solve complex problems.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
