Role Overview
Protection & Control Field Engineer at GE Vernova. This role is based on site execution across high-voltage substations in the region.
Role Purpose
Execute end-to-end site installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection, conventional control, and monitoring & diagnostics systems in high-voltage substations. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, utility owners, and construction firms, ensuring all activities are executed safely, profitably, and in accordance with contractual requirements and GE Vernova quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Handle on-site installation, testing, and commissioning for protection relays, busbar protection, Conventional Control Systems (CCS), SCMS, and LCC equipment.
- Perform panel integration and internal validation at GEV facility.
- Conduct pre-outage and installation planning.
Technical Leadership & Expertise
- Provide expert technical direction on OEM packaged products.
- Interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLD drawings.
- Perform CT/VT adequacy checks, relay setting verification, IEC61850 signal mapping, and cybersecurity requirement and implementation.
- Provide training to customer personnel.
- Represent GE before customers and consultants in technical discussions and workshops.
Project Management & Operations
- Plan, organize, and direct resources including labor, tools, and materials.
- Manage project workloads to ensure high billable ratio and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Manage cross-functional teams including sub-contractors and draftsmen.
- Recommend and administer policies and procedures.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare accurate field service reports.
- Maintain timesheets.
- Manage red-line drawings.
- Coordinate responses to consultant and customer comments.
- Ensure full compliance with EHS guidelines.
- Maintain consistent quality standards through rigorous testing and validation protocols.
Client Engagement
- Act as the GE representative in technical meetings.
- Drive satisfaction through proactive communication.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of field experience in HV substation protection and control systems.
- Strong knowledge of protection and busbar philosophy and CCS.
- Proficiency with protection relay software, test kits (e.g., Omicron/Megger), and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to interpret and implement technical documentation including schematics, cable schedules, interpanel wiring files, and Bill of Materials.
- Experienced in all protection relays software (GE and MiCOM).
- Advanced computer literacy with MS Office Suite and Project Management software.
- Strong communication skills in English.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency with protection relay software and test kits.
- Expertise in Omicron/Megger and diagnostic tools.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in GEV products (e.g., MiCOM, UR family relays, DGA900, MS3000, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of DCS and SCMS/Cybersecurity implementation.
- Deep understanding of EHV/HV electrical network schemes and state-of-the-art substation automation technologies.
- Experience with ServiceMax or similar field service management software.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and take ownership of onsite deliverables.
