Project Engineer (Pump Packages)

Role Overview

Project Engineer (Pump Packages) at NOV, responsible for leading complex pump package projects across the Production and Midstream Technology portfolio.

Role Purpose

Independently lead the execution of complex and strategically important pump package projects across the NOV Production and Midstream Technology portfolio, including Reciprocating, PCP, MPP, and ALS systems. Deliver projects in accordance with contractual requirements, approved scope, schedule, budget, and NOV quality, HSE, and compliance standards while meeting customer expectations and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

• Lead complex pump package projects from handover, LOI, and purchase order award through engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, shipment, commissioning support and close-out.
• Act as the primary technical and execution focal point, taking ownership of end-to-end delivery in line with contract, scope, schedule, budget, quality, HSE and customer expectations.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams including Sales, Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality, Service, vendors and customers.

Planning & Documentation

• Develop and maintain MS Project schedules, VDRL and deliverables registers, risk registers, action trackers, materials tracking, change logs and close-out plans.
• Review drawings, vendor documents and package documentation for completeness, compliance and readiness for manufacture, testing and delivery.

Monitoring & Control

• Monitor progress, cost exposure, milestones, invoicing alignment, forecast, risk and change control.
• Take corrective action to protect plans and budgets.
• Identify and manage technical, schedule, commercial, supply chain and HSE risks.
• Maintain mitigation plans and drive timely action closure.

Coordination & Meetings

• Coordinate engineering, procurement, manufacture, inspection, documentation and logistics interfaces in line with project priorities and shop load plans.
• Lead kick-off, technical clarification, design review, progress review and phase review meetings with internal teams, vendors and customers.
• Escalate critical issues and drive closure.

Change & Risk Management

• Manage change requests, deviations, concessions and scope variations in line with contract terms and internal approvals.
• Assess commercial impact of changes.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

• Maintain effective customer communication and provide timely status updates.
• Manage expectations and resolve issues to support customer satisfaction.
• Support Proposals and Sales on critical opportunities by providing technical, execution and schedule input.
• Ensure effective handover of awarded orders.

Compliance & Standards

• Ensure compliance with company and corporate policies, HSE requirements, quality procedures and contractual and legal requirements.
• Ensure projects meet applicable international standards such as ISO, API 674 and 676, ASME, ATEX, DNV, CE Marking and functional safety SIL.

Field Activities

• Perform vendor visits, site inspections and FAT, witness testing and commissioning support as required.

Continuous Improvement & Development

• Resolve operational and technical issues, minimize delays and unexpected cost impact.
• Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to team capability by sharing technical expertise and providing informal guidance to junior engineers.

Project Close-out

• Responsible for project close-out including final documentation, invoicing support, handovers, MDR dossier completion, warranty interfaces and management reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Process Engineering or related engineering field.
• 8 years of relevant project engineering and package execution experience.
• 5 years minimum in Pump or Process package project execution or project management field.
• Experience with API 674, API 676, reciprocating, PCP, centrifugal and horizontal pump packages.
• Capable of managing multiple projects, vendor interfaces and proposal-to-project handover.

Desirable

• 10+ years in complex pump package projects and cross-functional execution.
• Professional project management qualification preferred (e.g. PMP).
• PMP certification.
• Good knowledge of skid fabrication and packaging for Pump Packages for Oil & Gas sector.
• Oil & Gas equipment packaging experience in the Middle East.
• Experience supporting techno-commercial clarifications, deviations and proposal handover.
• Ability to support continuous improvement and standard template development.
• Ability to provide guidance and assistance to peers to support common business goals.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of Pumps, diesel and gas engines, Motors, Gearboxes, couplings, belt drives, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, instrumentation and control panels.
• Strong knowledge of ATEX, ANSI, API, ASME pipes, flanges, fittings and package requirements.
• Strong knowledge of General Arrangement, P&ID, Instrumentation, Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical schemes.
• Understanding of electrical installations, VFD, PLC, Soft starter and package automation concepts.
• Working knowledge of Internal Combustion Engine, drive arrangements, Transmission, gear reducer, coupling and belt drive selection knowledge.
• Experience and knowledge of VFD and PLC automation control systems.
• Knowledge of specific design codes, EC Directives and CE Marking, API 674 and 676, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, NACE MR-0175, ATEX and DNV requirements.
• Knowledge and experience working with ISO, API and customer specifications.

Software & IT

• Computer literacy including good command of Microsoft Office applications and project reporting tools.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D solid modeling.
• Experience in ERP systems – JDE, CRM, SAP and Oracle.
• Knowledge of project scheduling, reporting tools and document control workflows.
