Role Overview

Porter at American Hospital Dubai, located in Dubai. The position supports the provision of safe, patient and family-focused quality care and assists in the daily functioning of the unit/department in support of patient care while maintaining confidentiality.

Role Purpose

Support safe, patient and family-focused quality care by assisting in the daily functioning of the unit/department, managing patient and visitor movement throughout the hospital, maintaining facility cleanliness and organization, and ensuring a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient and Visitor Assistance

• Transfer patient luggage to and from patient rooms
• Escort patients to rooms upon admission and discharge if needed
• Escort patients whenever the need arises throughout the hospital premises
• Assist patients in moving their luggage during admission to their assigned room and upon discharge
• Guide patients within the hospital premises if the need arises
• Help patients and visitors if requested with loading and unloading luggage into and out of their vehicles
• Assist disabled patients and visitors if requested into and out of their vehicles
• Answer patient queries regarding the location of hospital facilities

Hospital Operations and Transportation

• Demonstrate knowledge of all hospital services and facilities
• Assist departments with their transportation needs throughout the hospital
• Maintain accurate knowledge of scheduled functions within the hospital to direct visitors to the correct locations
• Collect and deliver lab samples as directed
• Assist with Information Desk duties as required

Communication and Customer Service

• Provide information to prospective customers and hospital staff by answering all specific inquiries regarding patients' queries
• Answer phone calls politely and cordially
• Maintain proper telephone etiquette
• Answer assigned mobile within three rings using correct greeting and telephone etiquette

Facility Maintenance and Safety

• Ensure a safe working environment through strict compliance with Hospital Policy and Procedures regarding safety, infection and security
• Monitor and maintain the appearance of the clinic's waiting areas
• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the waiting areas
• Ensure that the place of work and surrounding area is kept clean and organized at all times
• Monitor and maintain tidiness and organization of all work areas
• Ensure wheelchairs are available near the information desk
• Remain in assigned post position, maintaining correct posture

Reporting and Compliance

• Follow the chain of command in reporting incidents or concerns
• Promote incident and customer complaint reporting to improve patient and family care
• Report equipment failure, safety and security issues, and reduction of supply inventory to the Patient Relations Supervisor
• Comply with policies for personal and patient safety for the provision of healthcare-associated infections

General Duties

• Prioritize tasks ensuring effective functioning of the area
• Prioritize workload and complete correspondence on time
• Act appropriately on assigned areas of duty
• Participate in staff meetings as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

• High School Graduate
• Ability to speak and write in English fluently
• Knowledge of Customer Service Principles
• Previous hospital experience (preferred)
• Ability to speak in Arabic (preferred)
