Role Overview

Physiotherapist at NMC Healthcare, Dubai, U.A.E. The role treats patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing across all age groups, including children, the elderly, stroke patients and people with sports injuries.

Role Purpose

Physiotherapists work with patients to identify and improve their movement and function, promoting health and wellbeing while assisting rehabilitation by developing and restoring body systems, particularly the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The role devises and reviews treatment programmes comprising manual therapy, movement, therapeutic exercise and technological equipment application, and provides advice on injury prevention.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment and Treatment

• Identify physical problems through working with patients.
• Develop and review treatment programs.
• Assist patients with joint and spinal problems, especially following surgery.
• Help patients' rehabilitation following accidents, injury and strokes.
• Devise treatment programmes comprising manual therapy, movement, therapeutic exercise and application of technological equipment including IDD therapy.
• Ensure physiotherapy treatments are based on sound evidence of benefit.

Documentation and Reporting

• Write patient case notes and reports.
• Collect patient statistics.
• Ensure all adverse clinical events are recorded and reported.

Patient Education and Communication

• Educate and advise patients and their carers about how to prevent and improve conditions.
• Effectively communicate with staff members, health professionals, clients and family regarding provision of physiotherapy services.

Team and Organizational Participation

• Work as a professional member of a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team and actively participate in team meetings.
• Contribute to and participate in education programs for residents, relatives and staff of NMCSH.
• Participate in NMCSH Quality Management System and commit to processes of continuous improvement activities, including auditing, surveys and needs analysis.
• Participate in continuing education and courses updating physiotherapy techniques and information.

Equipment and Facilities Management

• Ensure physiotherapy equipment is adequately maintained.
• Liaise with the Head of Department for ordering of supplies and equipment.

Health and Safety

• Maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist in the ongoing maintenance of a safe workplace through involvement in implementation of safe systems of work.
• Identify and report hazards in the workplace.

Compliance and Professional Standards

• Undertake duties in accordance with the philosophy, business practices and policies of NMCSH-Dubai.
• Practice within the standards and ethics of the physiotherapy profession.
• Follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations and Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients and while discharging professional duties.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Department or the Medical Director.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate from an approved College or University in Physiotherapy.
• Current license in country of origin with DHA license to practice in Dubai, U.A.E.
• Minimum 2 years experience of practice in Physical Medicine.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Arabic language advantageous but not essential.
• Sound computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work in cordial conditions in group practice in a hospital setup and as a member of a team.
• Knowledge of the range and type of services available for aged and disabled persons.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
