Role Purpose

Deliver age-appropriate eye examinations and vision care to pediatric patients using specialized techniques and equipment, ensuring early detection and management of eye conditions while building trust with families and supporting referrals to specialist care when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Examination & Assessment

• Conduct routine age-appropriate eye examinations including visual acuity, stereopsis, visual field, binocular vision, and hand-eye coordination using pediatric-specific techniques and equipment.
• Take medical and developmental histories and assess symptoms including discharge, redness, tearing, and light sensitivity.
• Perform 100% of pediatric patients with age-appropriate eye examinations using specific techniques and equipment.

Condition Screening & Management

• Screen for and manage amblyopia, strabismus, refractive errors, and congenital eye conditions.

Treatment, Prescription & Referral

• Prescribe corrective lenses, glasses, and vision therapy as appropriate.
• Refer complex or surgical cases to a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist within appropriate timeframes; ensure 100% of complex or surgical cases are referred within defined parameters.
• Ensure ≥90% of prescribed treatment plans are documented and tracked for compliance.

Patient & Family Education

• Educate children and parents/guardians on eye care, corrective lens and patch compliance, and eye safety factors.

Community & Program Involvement

• Support vision screening alongside school health and early intervention programs.
• Contribute to pediatric eye health awareness initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Optometry (Ministry of Higher Education-approved).
• 3–5 years' optometry experience (pediatric exposure preferred).
• Advanced Pediatric Optometry training.
