Pediatric Manager Inpatient

Role Overview

Pediatric Manager Inpatient at King's College Hospital London, reporting to the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer of Women's and Children's Services.

Role Purpose

Provide high-level leadership and management of nursing and operations across the Pediatric Service line to ensure clinical and operational processes are developed and implemented effectively across Pediatric ICU and HDU, Pediatric Liver Transplant Program, Pediatric Inpatients, Pediatric Outpatients, and satellite schools' clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Provide visible clinical nursing leadership across the designated services, acting as a role model for professional practice, clinical standards, and patient-centered care.
• Lead and manage the service within the Pediatric division while sustaining effective working relationships with consultant medical staff and the nursing team.
• Lead, manage, motivate, and develop staff within the Pediatric Service to effectively engage staff, maintain the highest level of staff morale, and create a climate evidenced by high standards and openness.
• Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills by guiding, supporting, and managing the team, including overseeing team performance evaluations to ensure effective collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
• Undertake appraisal for own direct reports and ensure personal development plans are identified and implemented.

Operations & Service Delivery

• Provide operational management of the PICU, Pediatric Liver Transplant, Pediatric Inpatient and Pediatric Outpatient services and school services.
• Ensure the operational requirement of the service is effectively managed and coordinated.
• Develop patient-focused services, identifying future financial, capital and workforce requirements and ensuring that contractual and performance targets are met.
• Deliver performance against financial, activity, quality and workforce targets.

Clinical Governance & Quality

• Work with clinical colleagues in a shared-governance model to establish and monitor protocols of care provision.
• Deliver efficient and effective care pathways which improve patient outcomes and reduce lengths of stay.
• Review all patient feedback and ensure KPIs are monitored as set by the Chief Nursing Office.

Strategic Collaboration

• Provide professional management support to the Pediatric Service Line, working collaboratively with the Clinical Directors and Head of Department for Pediatrics.
• Support the development and delivery of service strategy, staff engagement, organisational development, and the management of risk.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent qualification.
• Current valid DHA nursing licence or eligibility for DHA registration.
• Minimum five years' recent experience managing a team of nurses.
• Relevant Masters level studies preferable.
