Role Overview
Nurse Practitioner - Women's Services at Sidra Medicine. This is a licensed independent practitioner role providing comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare services to women across the lifespan in an innovative care team environment.

Role Purpose
The Nurse Practitioner - Women's Services manages health problems and coordinates age-appropriate healthcare for patients within an innovative care team. The role focuses on preventive care, reproductive health, antenatal care, contraception counseling, menopause management, urogynecology services, and urodynamic assessment, while functioning as a patient advocate and evidence-based practitioner in accordance with MOPH Department of Healthcare Practitioner rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Evaluation & Assessment
- Perform age-appropriate histories on new patients and obtain interval histories on return patients.
- Perform physical examinations including pelvic and breast examinations with pap smear sampling.
- Perform focused examinations on return patients.
- Assess and document normal and abnormal findings on new patients.
- Conduct maternal health screening including blood pressure monitoring, fetal assessment, and risk evaluation, including DVT risk assessment.
- Assess and manage symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause.
- Assess and manage pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
- Perform urodynamic assessments and assist with diagnostic evaluation of urinary dysfunction.
- Undertake considerable independent judgment with direct impact on patient health, well-being, and satisfaction within authority and job scope.
Diagnostic & Therapeutic Ordering
- Order appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated upon patient evaluation.
- Recognize situations which require immediate physician attention and initiate life-saving procedures when necessary.
Pharmacological & Non-Pharmacological Interventions
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities.
- Obtain countersignature on prescriptions from supervising physician for medications not included in approved formulary.
- Prescribe and manage contraception in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Prescribe and monitor hormone replacement therapy (HRT) where appropriate.
- Where appropriate and skilled, prescribe physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments as required.
Antenatal Care
- Provide routine antenatal assessments and monitoring for low-risk pregnancies.
- Educate expectant mothers on pregnancy health, nutrition, lifestyle, and birth preparation.
- Identify pregnancy complications and refer to obstetricians when necessary.
Contraception & Reproductive Health Counseling
- Provide counseling on contraceptive options including hormonal, non-hormonal, and long-acting reversible contraception.
- Insert and remove contraceptive devices where credentialed (e.g., IUDs, implants).
- Support patients in family planning decisions and reproductive health management.
Menopause Management
- Provide counseling on hormonal and non-hormonal management options.
- Provide guidance on bone health, cardiovascular risk, and lifestyle interventions during midlife.
Urogynecology Services
- Provide conservative management strategies such as pelvic floor therapy education and bladder training.
- Collaborate with urogynecology specialists for complex cases and surgical referrals.
Preventive Healthcare & Health Screening
- Deliver preventive healthcare services including cervical cancer screening (pap smear/HPV testing), breast health assessment, sexual health screening, and osteoporosis risk assessment.
- Provide health screening programs and wellness consultations.
- Promote disease prevention and early detection strategies.
Patient & Family Education
- Provide counseling on sexual health, reproductive health, lifestyle and nutrition, weight management, and mental health awareness.
- Encourage healthy behaviors and long-term wellness.
- Act as advisor and facilitate staff, patient, and family decision-making by providing educational tools.
- Provide counseling and anticipatory guidance to patients, family, and/or staff regarding physical, psychological, or developmental needs.
Care Coordination & Transition
- Work as part of the provider team, seeing patients within scope of practice to create other care opportunities for physicians.
- Work across all service lines by collaborating with multidisciplinary team members and making appropriate referrals.
- Facilitate patient transition within and between healthcare settings: admissions, transfers, and discharges, and complete appropriate documentation.
Independent Practice & Clinical Judgment
- Function independently to evaluate and treat patients with complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients, according to written guidelines as defined by the nurse practitioner's professional scope of practice and in adherence with Sidra's agreed-upon scopes of practice.
- Apply critical thinking to make independent determinations on process and policy exceptions that need to be defined on a case-by-case basis.
- Evaluate effectiveness of interventions and individualize plan of care and treatment based upon desired treatment outcomes.
- Recognize and consider age-specific needs of patients including prenatal care, menopause management, urodynamic and urogynecology care, health screening, preventative medicine, immunizations, and health maintenance.
Professional Communication & Interaction
- Utilize effective communication and interactions with patients, family, staff, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
Procedures
- Perform designated procedures after demonstrating competency and according to written standardized procedure where applicable.
- Where appropriate and skilled, assist in the operating room in accordance with operating room protocols.
Research & Advancement
- Provide expert education, consultation, advocacy, research, leadership, and mentorship.
- Promote advancement of the advanced practice nursing profession at Sidra and the community-at-large through publication, participation in professional organizations, and providing educational support to nursing staff.
- In consultation with collaborating physician, enroll patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and order necessary tests and medications.
- Participate in research design, implementation, and interpretation.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Appropriate Board Certification for specialty.
- Registered Nurse credential.
Experience
- 5+ years of clinical experience.
- 2+ years of experience in the Nurse Practitioner role.
- 3+ years of clinical experience as a registered general nurse and 2 years of experience in the same specialization after Master's degree or PhD.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current nursing license from the country of origin.
- Basic Life Support certification (Pediatric/Adult).
- Advanced Life Support certification required in some specialty areas.
Professional Requirements
- Professional mastery of the scope of professional practice at a formal level of education including board certification.
- Knowledge of advanced nursing practice at formal education level.
