Role Overview
NDT Tech at McDermott in an unspecified location. The role provides solutions to problems in the NDT discipline without supervisory approval and evaluates and selects solutions from established operating procedures and scientific procedures.
Role Purpose
Examine welds and materials using non-destructive testing methods, determine conformity or non-conformity against code and contractual specifications, and report results accurately to support quality assurance and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Examination & Testing
- Examine welds and materials by Radiography (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Dye Penetrant (PT) based on code and contractual specifications.
- Perform NDT examination of welds and materials by any one of the following methods—RT, UT, PT, or MT—in accordance with written Project NDT plan, NDT Procedures, code, and Contractual Specification.
- Execute examination by approved NDT procedures and internationally recognized codes and specifications.
Assessment & Reporting
- Determine conformity or non-conformity of flaws and report accurately.
- Assess examination results accurately, sentence welds, and report according to relevant code and specification acceptance criteria.
- Determine acceptance or rejection based on defined criteria.
Quality Coordination
- Liaise with the assigned QC inspector to determine the completion of rectification work.
- Report conforming work for rectification; coordinate with the QC inspector to ensure rectified work is inspected before re-examination by the original NDT method.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years of Engineering Degree or High School Diploma.
- 3+ years in Radiography or Ultrasonic testing.
- ASNT or CSWIP qualification.
- Occupational qualification to internationally recognized schemes to determine competency (e.g., PCN, CSWIP, ASNT, etc.).
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in assessing examination results accurately.
- Competent in sentencing welds and reporting according to relevant code and specification acceptance criteria.
