Role Overview

MTBM Operator at Al Shirawi Group.

Role Purpose

Operate and maintain Mechanized Tunnel Boring Machine (MTBM) equipment, ensuring safe and accurate tunnel advancement through real-time control of cutting parameters and adherence to confined-space safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Setup & Alignment

• Establish jacking frame alignment according to tunnel axis and site layout requirements.
• Install and position launching seal components per specifications.
• Align laser guidance systems in relation to tunnel axis.

Testing & Commissioning

• Test and commission the MTBM to verify mechanical readiness.
• Test and commission the hydraulic jacking system.
• Test and commission the slurry system.
• Test and commission cutting head components.

Guidance System Verification

• Verify laser target guidance system functionality.
• Calibrate laser target guidance system to maintain tunnel path accuracy.

Operational Control

• Control cutter head torque in real-time.
• Control thrust force in real-time.
• Adjust drilling parameters based on geological conditions encountered.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to confined-space entry protocols.
• Adhere to emergency response procedures.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of jacking frame setup and alignment.
• Knowledge of launching seal installation.
• Knowledge of laser guidance system operation and calibration.
• Hydraulic systems understanding.
• Slurry system operation.
• Real-time parameter adjustment and equipment control.
