Medical Transcriptionist

Role Overview

Medical Transcriptionist at NMC Healthcare. The position involves listening to recorded dictation from doctors and other healthcare professionals and transcribing it into diagnostic test results, operative reports, referral letters, and other clinical documents.

Role Purpose

To transcribe and interpret medical dictation into accurate diagnostic test results, operative reports, referral letters, and related documents in order to document and facilitate the delivery of healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

Transcription & Documentation

• Interpret and transcribe a variety of medical reports and correspondence regarding patients' assessment, work-up, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnoses, and prognosis.
• Operate and utilize designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed.
• Follow department and doctor formats in completing reports.
• Provide quality transcription through the use of proper resources and proofreading of own work.

Communication & Performance

• Demonstrate excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style.
• Understand diverse accents and varying dictation styles.
• Meet the required efficiency standards set by doctors and departments.
• Work effectively under pressure with time constraints.
• Maintain good eye, hand, and auditory coordination.

Confidentiality & Compliance

• Ensure the confidentiality of the contents of all reports transcribed.
• Comply with all Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures.
• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and specific responsibilities.
• Comply with waste management procedures and policies.
• Cooperate with hospital management to meet OSH and infection control requirements.

Safety & Awareness

• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notify OSH of hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School Level education or equivalent.
• Graduate qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Transcriptionist.
• Ability to transcribe medical and audio files with 100% quality.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Arabic language skills desirable but not mandatory.
